Bob’s Thoughts...

A Place of Rest

“There remains therefore a rest to the people of God. For we who have believed do enter into rest.”

Hebrews 4:3, 9 God has spoken; there remains a rest for His people. God looks out for His own. He has prepared a place for us - a place of rest. And what kind of place is this place of rest? It is the place of His abiding pres-ence. The Old Testament described this rest as a land flowing with milk and honey where God would abide with His people. This is indicative of God’s loving care and bountiful provision. God’s rest was also described as a place of victory and peace. In spite of treacherous enemies, insurmountable obstacles, and adverse circum-stances, God still provided rest for His people. As it was then, so it is now, but on such a more personal scale. The first rest was external and primarily physical. But the rest that now remains for the people of God is eter-nal and primarily spiritual. Jesus explained to His disciples that while He had been with them as an external presence, He would soon be within them in a spiritual presence (John 14:16-20). He also called this a rest unto your souls in Matthew 11:29. So! How do you enter into this glorious rest that remains for His people? By Grace thru Faith of course (Ephesians 2:8-10). It will be an obedience of faith and not a faith in our obedience. It will be because of what He has provided for us; not for us only, but, for all those who will express their faith in Him by doing His will. There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God! What a precious promise for all believers, for we who have believed, do enter into rest!

Have a Great Week,

Bob

The South Main elders, however, have de-cided to exercise our rights under the law to prohibit open carry of handguns on the church proper ty. We are in the process of ordering the appropriate state mandated signage officially announcing this prohibition. Concealed carry by license holders will continue to be permitted. Thank you for your consideration.

If you have not been trained and would like to occasion-ally serve as a host (or you would like a refresher!), we will have a training session on Wednesday evening, Feb-ruary 17th, 5:45-6:15pm, in the HomeFront Center.
