STEWARDSHIP
REFLECTIONS
“It is written: The Lord, your God,
shall you worship and him alone
shall you serve.”
MATTHEW 4:10
Tempted between the riches and
power of this world and service
to God, Jesus chose service to His
Father.
If we wish to truly follow Jesus,
we, too, must decide to turn
away from power and riches and
put God at the centre of our lives.
How is God calling you to serve?
RECONCILIATION AT ST MARTIN'S
If any parishioner wishes to receive Reconciliation at St Martin's Church please
contact the Parish Office to make a suitable time with
Father Kym.
LENT IN OUR PARISH
During Lent the church encourages all to be involved in three disciplines of Lent those being, prayer, fasting and abstinence. As a Parish exercise you are encouraged to arrive for Mass ten minutes earlier during Lent to spend some time in prayer before the Lord. Therefore we respectfully ask that you leave your chat at the door to allow others to pray and for God to talk to us. Gluten Free Altar Bread
Please note that we gluten free hosts for anyone who may be gluten intolerant. If you require a gluten free host please see the Sacristan at least 15 minutes prior to Mass.
The February edition of the
Southern Cross is now available

Our Parish Is A Child Safe Organisation Did you know that the United Nations Convention has established 42 rights for children and young people and we as adults have a responsibility to protect these rights? These rights are known as articles, this is article number 14:
Children have the right to religious freedom and parents have the right to teach their children
about the religion of their choice.
We are blessed to live in a country where we are free to practice our faith. We are grateful for our right to teach our children the Gospel message while also recognising that they have been given the gift of free will. We encourage our children to come to Christ joyfully, drawn in by the love of God rather than out of obligation or fear. We keep in our thoughts children and families who do not have this freedom and who maintain faith despite fear of persecution. Let us pray that they are granted freedom to live their faith openly and let us be thankful every day for the opportunities our own children have to learn about the true freedom we find in the message of the Gospel. To find out more about child protection initiatives contact the Child Protection Unit on 8210 8159.
Our Parish Is Committed to Caring for our Environment
Respect for human life means respecting all of God’s creation. We must re-engage with our environment and take responsibility for it; live sustainably, live so that there are enough resources for everyone. The relationship between human activity and global warming must be constantly monitored for “the climate is a good that must be protected”. Vatican’s Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church, para 470 “Creation is not a property, which we can rule over at will; or, even less, is the property of only a few: Creation is a gift, it is a wonderful gift that God has given us, so that we care for it and we use it for the benefit of all, always with great respect and gratitude.” Pope Francis

Dinia's Story - The Philippines
You shall love your neighbour as yourself. Matthew 22:39
With the help of a program supported by Caritas Australia, Dinia gained the skills to earn a better income for her children and help neighbours in her vulnerable community Dinia’s story is a story of healing, through her own skill and perseverance, and through support from a Caritas-Australia funded program. Living in the Philippines, she struggled daily with poverty in a country with many vulnerable communities. People living in rural and coastal areas have very little access to basic services. They face extreme weather events, environmental degradation and the effects of internal conflict and have little hope of a sustainable income. For Dinia, the untimely death of her husband meant an end to his small income and a greater struggle to feed and educate her children. She struggled alone, facing a future without hope, until her community encouraged her to participate in the Socio Pastoral Action Center Foundation Inc (SPACFI) program supported by Caritas Australia. SPACFI’s Integrated Community Development Program helped her develop diverse ways to gain a sustainable livelihood, continue to send her children to school and contribute to her community. The program foregrounds the need to work together for the common good, awakening Dinia’s innate generosity and leadership qualities. She was able to learn about organic farming, managing livestock, and starting a small business. Now she has an integral role in her community, a sustainable livelihood, and a brighter future for her children. “My life is much better now. It is much easier,” she says. "I have a feeling of contentment, being able to help others." - Dinia
Money boxes and weekly envelopes are available to take home this weekend.
