Complete these activities over this week. You can complete them in any order you wish! These activities are based on the theme of ‘Living things in their environment’. 1. Can you practice writing the sound ‘ow’, then write it in the word and then write the word to match the pictures.
2. Can you work out which words are real, which are nonsense? Colour code these.
3. Can you find the words with the ‘ow’ sound in the story? Can you read the story yourself or with some help from a grownup?

Writing – ‘ing’ words – add ’ing’
We can change the ending to words to explain something we are doing or have done by adding ‘ing’. – write the word endings and then write your own words with ‘ing’ at the end and draw a picture for them.
Adding the suffix ‘ed’
Sometimes, the root word needs to change before you can add ‘ed’ to make a new word. Check out the rules in your task.
Look at the different meanings of the suffixes on the table. Find three examples of words with each suffix. Can you find out their meaning too?

Use June 8th Writing Lesson – here we are focussing on planning our recount. We will be planning a diary from the viewpoint of the ugly duckling.
We will also be focussing on creating past tense verbs with the ‘ed’ suffix, and adjectives with ‘ful’ and ‘less’.

Use June 9th Writing lesson – here we are focussing on using the powerful verbs and interesting adjective choices we created using the suffixes and writing them in sentences.
Finally, we are going to complete the task by writing a diary entry from the ugly ducklings point of view.

You could present what you find out as an information page with drawings. Be as creative as you like. We would love to see what you create and what you find out.
Art/DT Choose an animal and create a feast for it. You could design it, make it or perhaps create recipe and bake it! Can youu label if it is a carnivore, herbivore, omnivore. (see the Science section to learn about this)

Task 1: Can I identify what animals need to survive: Match the descriptions to the correct groups.
Task 2: Can I identify what animals eat?Sort the animals by the types of food they eat – are they carnivores, omnivores or herbivores?
Task 3: Can I create a fact file about animal? Think about what type of animal it is, where it lives, what it eats. What does it need to survive? Can you find out an interesting fact about it? You could use the sheet here or create your own fact file page (s) .
