Give opinions about your favourite words or phrases. Read the two poems under this timetable: ‘At the Bottom of the Garden’ and ‘The Greedy Queen Bee.’ Highlight your favourite words and/or phrases and write a sentence to explain why you like them. For example: I like the phrase ‘the old and wrinkled earthworm’ because it makes me think of worms being the wrinkles on somebody’s forehead. Spelling Activity 1: See the Year 1and 2 Common Exception Words spelling sheet below this timetable. Choose 5 words (particularly Year 2 words), practice spelling each word and then hide the words and be tested to see if you can remember how the words are spelt. Can you write descriptive sentences with these words in? Move on to different words each day or repeat words that you are making mistakes with to help you to practice more.

Spelling Activity 2: Repeat the ‘Spelling Activity 1’ activity but use words from the suffix word list that is below this timetable instead.

PSHE (Relationships topic)Think of one friend. Talk about the fun things you do together and how you make each other feel good. Now think about when you’ve had a disagreement with your friend about something. Should you shout at each other, be rude and call each other names? What better choices could you both make? Read through the ‘Mending Friendships’ Chart below. Think of one disagreement you have had or may have with a friend. Write notes for each stage of the chart (Stop, Get Ready, Mend the Friendship) to show your thoughts and ideas. Create your own scenarios for your chosen disagreement when thinking about each stage of the chart. How can issues with friends be resolved in better ways?

Tuesday Sumdog and Maths No Problem

Maths No Problem Parent Guides. Go to Textbook 2B, Chapter 14 Time –lesson 2. Look through the In Focus task (text book) with your child before letting them attempt the actual activity (work book).

Planning a poem: identifying and using rhyming words. Read the two poems under this timetable (the same poems as yesterday): ‘At the Bottom of the Garden’ and ‘The Greedy Queen Bee.’ Discuss what rhyming words are. Can you spot any rhyming words in both of the poems? Where are they found? For example, queen, mean. List them. We are going to begin planning our own minibeast poem. First of all, decide… Would you like your own poem to be about one minibeast, or about a few minibeasts? Can you list rhyming words that can be used in your own minibeast poem that make sense? They can be about what a minibeast looks like or what a minibeast does. For example, crunch, munch (I am thinking about what a caterpillar would do with a leaf). How many rhyming words can you create? You do not have to have loads as your poem does not need to be long, but can you try to think of more

than one set of rhyming words? Complete this in a way that works best for you.

Remember Science Day when we looked at camouflage?

What does camouflage mean? Look at a range of camouflage. Explore how this might protect the animals.

Make a list of animals that camouflage themselves. How do they do it? Why? Where?

Can you make a creature that camouflages and then put it against a similar background in your home? Take a photo and email it to us or put it on FaceBook.

Wednesday Times Tables Rock Stars and Maths No Problem

Maths No Problem Parent Guides. Go to Textbook 2B, Chapter 14 Time – Lesson 3. Look through the In Focus task (text book) with your child before letting them attempt the actual activity (work book).

Planning a poem: including description. Think about your minibeast poem that you began planning yesterday with rhyming words. This time, add to your ideas by listing adjectives that can be included in your poem about your minibeast/s. For example, I want to include a caterpillar in my poem as I thought about crunch and munch rhyming yesterday, so now I need to add to my ideas by listing adjectives that I can use to describe my caterpillar – green, hairy caterpillar and rough, slimy leaves. What interesting adjectives can you think of? You do not need to include loads of adjectives, just enough to add some nice detail to your poem. Extension: Can you list a couple of adverbs too to describe how something is being done? For example, ‘bites happily’ can relate to the caterpillar biting into the leaf. This is how he does it/how he is feeling. Use the

Maths No Problem Parent Guides. Go to Textbook 2B, Chapter 14 Time – lesson 4. Look through the In Focus task (text book) with your child before letting them attempt the actual activity (work book).

Write your minibeast poem. Using all of your ideas from the last couple of lessons, write your minibeast poem. Ensure that it flows. It is completely up to you about how many minibeasts you wish to include and how long or short you wish your poem to be. We would love to see rhyming words, adjectives and adverbs in your poems but you do not have to include lots and lots. One example of each would be great to see but more than that would be great too! It is your poem so you decide See the example poem under this timetable. Can you also include some nice drawings/ pictures? Complete this in a way that works best for you.
