Week 5 Term 4 Website: www.coolah-c.schools.nsw.edu.au

Last Friday night students here at CCS proved once again that we are all superstars, presenting Genie in the

Jukebox. With tickets selling out the school hall was packed to its total capacity. It was great to see so many parents, grandparents, and friends come to see the talent that CCS students have. It’s been a work in

progress for some weeks now and the students are to be commended on the effort and enthusiasm they have shown during our hours of practice. It’s been a real journey for all the students. Some children find it

easier than others to perform on a stage in front of a massive crowd like that, but on Friday night everyone

proved anything is possible and should be very proud of themselves, as the staff of CCS are very proud of you all. Well Done everyone! We hope you all enjoyed the show and can not wait until our 2019

performance!

Compulsory School Attendance Regular attendance at school is essential for students to achieve quality life outcomes. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students.

Parents or carers of children of compulsory school age are responsible for ensuring their child attends school every day. Children must commence school by age 6 and then complete year 10. After Year 10 and until they turn 17, students must be:

in school or registered for home schooling or

in approved education or training (e.g. TAFE,

traineeship, apprenticeship) or

in full-time, paid employment (average 25 hours/

week) or

in a combination of work, education and/or training. Attendance and absences Parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 12 must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

being sick or having an infectious disease

having an unavoidable medical appointment

exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on the student’s record.

Congratulations to all students and staff for the excellent effort they put into the performance of Genie in the Jukebox. Seeing the whole school from Kindergarten to Year 11 come together to put on such an outstanding performance was fantastic. A big

thankyou to the P+C and their helpers who provided dinner on the night. I’d like to remind students and their caregivers that Year 7 – 10 Examinations are next week starting on Monday 13th November. A timetable for these examinations is included in the newsletter. Students

should be preparing for these examinations now both at school and at home. Students should be paying particular attention to the work covered in class this week as many teachers will be doing explicit revision for these exams. As always I can be contacted at the school should you have any concerns.

Scone Beef Bonanza

The Secondary students travelled to Scone on the Thursday ahead of the Year 6 students who were still to

return from their Canberra excursion, so with tents pitched, it was off to the movies at Muswellbrook and

then out to dinner. It was a great night had by all and we were glad our tents were still standing upon return

to White Park in a wooly thunderstorm.

Friday saw the Waverley competition start. Back in May, 35 schools went into the draw for a Waverley steer

and a tonne of feed from Alexander Downs. Each steer then went to their new school home and was broken in

and fed for the upcoming Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza Competition. The Coolah Central School steer was

paraded well by Charlotte Porter and won the Primary steer section. “Vladamir” (named by Miss Fraser),

then went on to win Grand Champion Waverley steer over the other winner. The students did a great job

with the help of Mr. Paul Glynn in getting the steer shining on the day.

Each school then elects a parader from Primary and Secondary to show their parading skills on the Waverley

steer. Skyla Wicks did a great job, narrowly missing a place in the Primary section with Abbie Glynn leading

into a well deserved 2nd place. Well done to both girls on an outstanding job.

The Saturday competition saw all our steers in their classes. Competition was of a high standard with most

schools from across the state competing along with private producers and farmers.

Congratulations to our students who led these steers out in the HOOF competition. Ribbons were awarded to:

Jack Glynn who led “JT” (bred by Kurrajong Park) into a Highly Commended ribbon, Korina White lead

“Curly” (bred by R and N Worth) into a Highly Commended ribbon, Brody Pettet picked up a Highly

Commended ribbon with “Smokey” (R and N Worth and our Unled steer “Peanut” received a Highly

Commended ribbon also. Well done to Tom Moore, Ed Cox, Jacob Sternbeck and James Williams who

presented their steers well but were out of the ribbons.

Saturday afternoon saw paraders classes followed by more paraders on the Sunday. Many of our students

picked up ribbons in their heats. Congratulations to:

Ardie Curtis (4th), Bella Gibbons (4th), Jessica Mason (4th), Jack Glynn (2nd), Jordy Sternbeck (2nd), Edward

Cox (3rd) and Harriet Nolan (4th) who picked up ribbons in their paraders heats. Well done to those students

who were out of the ribbons- you all did well considering there were over 600 competitors going around!

A special thankyou to all the parents who came and supported us. A special mention to Erin Williams who

kept us very well fed and Paul Glynn who worked tirelessly grooming steers with our students all weekend.

Thank you to everyone.

Mr. Glynn’s awards for fitting and grooming go to- Gwyn Webb, James Williams and Ryan Miller. Well done

on a great job. Mrs. Thompson’s grooming awards go to Pheobe Ellis for her wonderful steer washing and Abbie

Glynn who worked tirelessly all weekend fitting and grooming.

To Jarrod Bennetts for helping us practice our meat judging at the butcher shop.

Watson for her great photography at Qurindi Show and Scone.

To all the students and parents who put in effort throughout the year, well done and thank you.

We hope you enjoyed the program and the students get to take away some skills for the future.

As always, our students adapt well when put in any situation, whether it be large crowds,

behind a microphone with little preparation and they are always well presented and polite.

Congratulations!
