PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome Back
Isn’t it wonderful to have some warmer weather!
We have had a very positive and productive start
to Term 4 and we look forward to another great
term at Tullamore Central School. As always there
will be plenty to keep us all very busy both in the
classroom and of course the many and varied
extracurricular activities available to students.
Happy Birthday to Us
The entire school community should be very
proud of our 125 celebrations. I have received
significant excellent feedback from visitors
regarding all aspects of the day. I must sincerely
again thank everyone who contributed to the
success of the event, in particular all members of
the organising committee. Miss Shankelton, Mrs
Stanbrook and Mrs McCosker deserve special
mention for their work setting up the archival
displays. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by
every member of the school community.

Bold and the Beautiful
Our school has recently undergone a
beautification process that can only be described
as an extreme makeover. Once again thanks to
everyone involved in the process, including the
many people who donated materials, time and
energy. The school is certainly looking wonderful
at present. Thanks very much to Mrs Horsburgh
for her efforts in managing this important school
improvement initiative. Mr Davison also did work
above and beyond that normally required of a GA
and we thank him for his efforts. A great team
effort all round.
Year 5/6 enjoying the lovely grounds
Our new sign is very eye catching !
Starstruck !
The BIG GIG was just a fantastic production.
Once again I must thank everyone involved.
Events such as these take considerable additional
work and the staff involved did an amazing job.
Special thanks must go to Miss Shankelton and
Mrs Foley for their efforts. Some of the student
talent on display was exceptional and wouldn’t be
out of place in a professional production. Bravo
to all. Encore !!
These extra-terrestrials were extra-talented

Upcoming staff variations
As I rapidly approach the end of my 21st year of
service to the Department of Education, I am
indulging myself in a month of Long Service
Leave. I will be on leave from Monday 16th
October until Tuesday 17th
November. Miss
Shankelton will be the relieving Principal during
this period. Mr Richards and Miss Richards will
be sharing the relieving Secondary Head Teacher
role.
Mr Prebendarcik will be taking leave from Friday
9th
October until Friday 13th
November. Mr Gary
Kerr will be replacing him for this period. Mr Kerr
is a highly experienced Science and Maths teacher
who has settled in very quickly.
Mr Max Davison is also taking leave from
Monday 12th
October until Monday 16th
November. He will be replaced at different times
by Mr Brendan Williams and Mr Tallis Stevenson
who we know will do an excellent job.
Mrs McCosker will also be taking several weeks
leave as of now. Mrs Jo Radford will be replacing
her for part of the time and Mrs Jenny Webb will
be filling in as well as teaching Miss Shankelton’s
classes while she relieves as Principal.
I have 100% confidence in all of our casual staff
and those relieving in higher duties to do an
excellent job.

P&C NEWS
Thanks to Jenny McLean, Jenny Harvey and
Heather Jones for helping with the sale of Joker
draw tickets for the P&C at the Tullamore Hotel
for the month of September. Your help with this
fundraiser is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much to our huge band of
volunteers who were able to help out with our
catering fundraisers of Big Gig and 125 years of
education celebrations. We had so many
volunteers it would be so hard to mention you all
but a special mention to our catering coordinator,
Nadine Mortimer who always manages to have
exceptional organisational skills for these events.
All the hard work of our volunteers has been truly
appreciated this year as we have almost raised
$7000 and that is before we add the music day,
Big Gig, 125 years and the paver fundraiser, so
thank you to one and all who has helped in
raising this large sum, we should all be very
proud.
The P&C is running a paver fundraiser to coincide
with the 125 years of education in Tullamore
celebrations. Order forms can be found at Casho’s
Cafe and the Tullamore General Store and all
orders need to be in by Friday 23rd
October. All
pavers will be $40 each and will help with the
school beautification plans.

PRIMARY PIECES
Welcome back! I hope your holidays were most
enjoyable. A special thanks to the students and
families who helped in any way to celebrate our
125 years of education at Tullamore. It was a great
day and wonderful to see many people here
helping celebrate.
Our first assembly for term 4 will be held on
Wednesday 4th
November.
Transition
This term our kindergarten 2016 students will
begin the transition to school program. We look
forward to this experience and warmly welcome
our new students.
K/1 News
Our annual excursion is currently
being planned for the coming weeks.
Please keep an eye out for a note and
notices in the newsletter for further
details.
PDHPE – growing and
changing.
As part of our unit of work this
term students are asked to bring a
photo of themselves as a baby, a
toddler and a current photo to
school. These can be photocopied and sent home
if required. It would be great if students could
have photos in by Wednesday 21st October please.
A table titled “Life then and now” will be going
home today. Could these please be filled out and
returned to school by the end of Week 3.
Year 2/3/4
Year 2/3/4 has had a busy start to the term. Our
excursion last week to see Roald Dahl’s ‘Dirty
Beasts and Revolting Rhymes’ was fantastic and
we are counting down the days until our next
excursion!
Homework
Students are to complete Unit 28 in their maths
homework books this week and complete Look,
say, cover, write, check based on their new
spelling words.
Bathurst Excursion
We leave early next Wednesday for our Bathurst
Excursion and will return Friday. A note with the
final details and a list of what to bring will be sent
home through the week.
Year 5/6
Welcome back to what is going to be an extremely
busy term. We are all looking forward to our
Canberra Excursion in week 10. More information
will be sent home closer to the date. For our Year
6 students it is their final term as primary students
and a graduation is planned for later in the term.

Students are to complete their spelling homework
on either Edmodo or in their homework book, as
well as 8 times tables and complete Mathletics
activities on measurement or a maths sheet.
This term we are focusing on comprehension.
Please ensure that your child is reading for 20
minutes each night.
Have a great term!

SECONDARY NEWS
This term is looking to be extremely busy with all
the upcoming events for various subjects and
sport. Please keep your eye on the newsletter for
dates and information.
Thankyou!
Many thanks to the community members that
assisted the Year 9/10 Elective History Class by
providing items for the static display at the 125
years celebrations. Special thanks go to Mrs
Nadine Mortimer who helped us out with
scanning the 100’s of photos that were displayed
on the day.
2016 Year 9/10 Elective Forms
Students in years 8 and 9 who have not yet
returned their elective forms need to do so by the
end of this week. These need to be given to Miss

Shankelton so that planning for next year can
commence.
HSC Begins
Students in Year 11 are now commencing their
first term of their HSC studies. This year we have
one student sitting a HSC exam in Modern
History. Hannah Walker will be sitting this exam
on 26th
October and we wish her all the best.
Hannah had the opportunity to early commence a
senior subject while she was in Year 10. This has
enabled her to take some of the pressure off next
year. This is one of the advantages of studying via
the Western Access Program, as it allows
flexibility in study pattern.
Year 9/10 Work Experience
Students who are intending on participating in
work experience this term need to see Miss
Shankelton by the end of Week 3 with details of 3
potential employers where they would like to be
placed. You need to provide a contact person and
a phone number on which they can be contacted to
enable placements to be arranged.
Have a great week!

WOMEN’S SOCIAL GROUP
We are hoping to start up a women’s social catch
up group that will meet every week, if available to
have a chat and catch up with each other. Some of
us just don’t make the time for ourselves to get
out of the house and do something for ourselves

and we hope that this can be one such event that
we can all attend. Each Friday from 10:00am,
starting on 9th
October we will be getting
together at Casho’s Cafe for a coffee/tea and a
chat. Hope to see you all there.
Cheers, Jan Ashe and Mel Alvey
CATHOLIC SACRAMENTS
Thank you to R&R Kitchens at the Tullamore
Bowling Club who were kind enough to open up
to help us celebrate our holy communion on
Sunday 20th
September. We had a group of 12
children that completed their sacrament of holy
communion this year and we thank Therese
Newell for all her help in planning the sacrament
classes for the children each fortnight. Thanks also
to Di Darcy for organising our beautiful cake for
the day too. We were also lucky enough to have
the company of Father Donald Gunn as well as
Bishop Columba to help with the significance of
this sacrament. We look forward to seeing all
these children in our parish as they continue to
receive their communion each week. Next year
will see our children undertake the sacrament of
confirmation and we look forward to this next
milestone. Thanks to all the children and their
families for supporting our parish and undertaking
the sacraments. Thanks Mel Alvey
