So far you have created a setting and a character.

• For a story we now need to think about what is going to happen at the beginning, middle and end.

• We also need to think of a problem our characters are going to face.

And how they resolve it.

Beginning of Miss Fenn’s and Miss Kreeger’s story.

• It was a beautiful hot day, the whole fairyland was grey in colour because of the Wicked Witch’s spell, but that didn’t stop Miss Fenn and Miss Kreeger from wanting to enjoy the day. They packed a picnic basket and picked up Thumper, a naughty, grey rabbit, and set off to the field that once had the most beautiful, colourful flowers.

• They laid out their green, polka dot picnic blanket and started to eat their delicious picnic. They had cheese sandwiches, sticky strawberries and cold, tropical juice. What a lovely day this was going to be…

Page 29: Week 2 Literacy...Week 2 –Literacy KS1 Fantasy Stories Day 1 Fairy tale stories are stories that have been around for a many, many years and retold hundreds of times. What else do

Page 30: Week 2 Literacy...Week 2 –Literacy KS1 Fantasy Stories Day 1 Fairy tale stories are stories that have been around for a many, many years and retold hundreds of times. What else do

Problem part of Miss Fenn’s and Miss Kreeger’s story.

As Miss Fenn and Miss Kreeger tucked into their picnic Thumper was feeling mischievous. He jumped out of the basket he had been put in and tried to get some of the teachers lunch.

”No Thumper, this is not for you!” said Miss Fenn and she put Thumper back in his basket.

Thumper feeling naughty again jumped out and decided that he could find some food in the forest instead. He jumped as fast as he could towards the grey forest. Even though everything was grey he could still smell some yummy things that would fill up his tummy. Thumper suddenly smelt his favourite thing! Juicy carrots! He runs towards them but as he gets closer someone or something grabs him. He turns his face and sees that the old, wicked witch has captured him!

Oh no! Who is going to help him now?

Does the Villain win?

What happens once the problem has been solved?

Jot some ideas for endings down from stories you have read before.

Page 34: Week 2 Literacy...Week 2 –Literacy KS1 Fantasy Stories Day 1 Fairy tale stories are stories that have been around for a many, many years and retold hundreds of times. What else do

Problem part of Miss Fenn’s and Miss Kreeger’s story.

Miss Fenn and Miss Kreeger hear a screech from the distance. They turn around to check on Thumper and realise he is missing! They jump and ran quickly towards the shriek but when they reach the forest they cannot see Thumper anywhere. Miss Kreeger begins to cry with worry. Miss Fenn is shaking with panic.

Suddenly a beautiful star appears. It moves to a tree and the tree lights up with the most beautiful glow. They walk up to the tree and hear a whisper saying

“Make a wish.” Miss Fenn and Mrs Kreeger make a wish that they can get Thumper back.

With a flash of light a beautiful fairy dressed in the most colourful dress appears.

”Miss Fenn, Miss Kreeger take this magical wand, it will help you get Thumper back. When you reach the Witch’s castle say Thumper 3 times and it will get your through her castle doors. When you see her say colour 3 times and the kingdom will be restored and you will have Thumper back. Quick go now, time is running out. ”

The teachers thanked the lovely fairy and they set off to the Witch’s castle.

Page 35: Week 2 Literacy...Week 2 –Literacy KS1 Fantasy Stories Day 1 Fairy tale stories are stories that have been around for a many, many years and retold hundreds of times. What else do

Task 2 :

Page 36: Week 2 Literacy...Week 2 –Literacy KS1 Fantasy Stories Day 1 Fairy tale stories are stories that have been around for a many, many years and retold hundreds of times. What else do

Ending part of Miss Fenn’s and Miss Kreeger’s story.

Not long after Miss Fenn and Miss Kreeger arrive at the castle doors. Together they say Thumper 3 times and the doors swing open.

They climb a long, spiral staircase and see that the Wicked Witch is holding Thumper in her arms in a scary room covered in dust and spider webs.

They slowly and quietly creep towards her and using the wand they say colour 3 times. The Wicked Witch drops Thumper and begins to scream. She starts to get smaller and smaller until she turns into a beautiful, brown rabbit!

”Now we have two rabbits to look after Miss Fenn” says Miss Kreeger!

The two teachers leave the castle and they are amazed to see that Fairyland has been restored and there are beautiful, colourful flowers everywhere!

Miss Fenn and Miss Kreeger make their way back to their picnic basket so they can tidy it up and head home knowing they helped to get Fairyland back and stopped the evil, wicked witch.
