Week 2 - IDEATION inflatable system - 3D representation

1. I first created the perimeter of the inflat-able device and aligned the edge of one circle , representing the front and a larger elipse, representing the back end with the perimeter

2. The measurements of the 3 are as fol-lows. - Whole Diameter - 200mm- Front Diameter - 40mm- Back Diameter - 120mm

3. I then offsetted the perimeter by 60mm and aligned one quadrant with the centre of the large elipse and small circle. Thus, creating a rail

4. I swept the two faces (front and back) using the Sweep 1 Rail tool. This provided me with a clear outline of the mesh

5. To create the valve, I started with a semi -sphere.

6. I then created a cylinder and a truncat-ed cone. I joined all three pieces together creating the valve

Week 2 - IDEATION inflatable system - volume

To exemplify the concept of volume, I created another inflatable pillow. I used a plastic shopping bag and silver masking tape. The tape evidently reinforced and thus strengthened the material. I found that the simplicity of the shape helped exemplify the process of getting to a volume.

Week 2 - IDEATION personal space

I find that my personal space is extremely influenced by my sight. I strongly rely on my ability to see and observe my surroundings in calculating what my reac-tions to individuals, stranger or not, will be. My ability to see helps justify the reasoning of individual’s movements toward me or away from me.

Another major aspect that has shaped my personal space is culture. I come from a very large family, who growing up were not very well off. There were roughly 30+ of us constantly around one another in a very small and compact place. This allowed me to become very comfortable around family but also the odd stranger.

Strangers where I was from were welcomed wholeheartedly. For my designs, I wish to focus on how sight relates to the direct area that encompasses ones personal space. Therefore, from my blind spots around my back I would consider around a 30cm ruler to protrude outwards however, from the top of my head to the tips of my feet by personal space would be mil-limetres from my body.

I would like to experiment with idea of ones blind spot and conceptualise and illustrate physically what this could encompass.

Week 2 - IDEATION generation of ideas

This design, I wanted to exemplify the claustrophobic nature of darkness and how the lack of sight for me has a direct correlation with my level of fear for what could be around.I found that through the lack of sight I would compensate through an increase in my sense of touch. The three protru-sions from the back of my head would slowly inflate to act as extensions or limbs, which heightens the sense of touch. They also help exemplify the extension of my personal space as that area is well within my blind spots.

DESIGN 1 DESIGN 3

From this design, I wanted to experiment with my blind spots. Through this cone like structure, I wanted to break my current comfort zones and really test how not only by natural blind spots behind my back would react to this situ-ation but also create a complete blind spot in front of me. The top surface would be clear and the surrounding curved surface would be black.

DESIGN 2

For this design, I wanted to experiment with my full body and work with large inflatable wings and extensions, which would act as a barrier for my own personal space. The sharp nature of the extensions also provides this threatening look toward the design thus warning anyone behind to stay well clear of them and thus me.
