Alternate Learning Opportunities This week we will be working on:

● Division strategies: Prepare for the standard algorithm by connecting multiplication strategies to division Origo at Home:

Click here to take a virtual trip with our district through the Origo at Home option and  hear some tips for navigating the site...or simply follow the steps below and explore:

Click to access Origo at Home Week 5

Click United States at the bottom of the screen.

Select Grade 4 at the bottom of the screen.

Click the orange, Week 5 button.

You can build fluency with multiplication and division by engaging in thinking and computational games through First In Math and/or a few of the other selected resources below.

Fluency with First in Math:

➔ Don’t forget: You must access First in Math through Clever or ClassLink .

● Practice Gyms ( both Multiplication and Division) ● Skill Set 3 or 4 (Multiplication and Division) ● Grand Slam (Multiply/Divide)

○ Click here to see how to access this week’s games in First in Math: Summer Week 1 Directions

Extension Opportunities

Fluency Sprints:

● Sprint A ● Sprint B

*You get 60 seconds to complete as many as possible. Use the same sprint several times during the week to see your growth!

Fluency Games and Challenges:

❖ Four Quotients ➢ Roll the dice, choose a division problem, and place your marker. Find a family member to challenge.

If you can be the first to get four in a row, you win! You can lay your screen flat and play on it if you are unable to print.

■ Click here for Online Dice if you need them.

❖ Open Middle - Division ➢ Using only the digits 1 - 9 once each, see if you can solve the puzzle! If you need to, you can copy

the boxes onto a blank sheet of paper.

❖ Mystery Matrix ➢ Can you solve the multiplication mystery matrix? Your skill with multiplication will be a factor here.

Hidden behind each cell is a product. Try to figure out as many puzzles as possible!

Summer Learning: Unplugged

Sidewalk Chalk Talk: Grab some sidewalk chalk and enjoy the following activities!

Mr. Ferris had his wheel, but what would you create for the World’s Fair? Will it be something that towers over the area, amazes audiences with cool tricks, or a beautiful display of color and artistry?

Think about your creation, then grab your chalk and showcase your design for all your neighbors to see!

Head outside and draw this Open Middle Problem , taking turns to solve. The winner is the one who comes up with the most solutions!

Scavenger Hunts: Do you have what it takes to track down your reading and math target?

Let’s hunt for singular and plural nouns! What location is the best place to hunt with the most options? Each person should find their room and start hunting. How many things can you find that are singular (clock, flower) or plural (plates, bushes)? List the items you find and be sure to use the correct plural form.

Team Singular or Team Plural? Who will win??

Select a number 11 - 20. Now make a list of all the multiples of that number by multiplying it 1 - 20. For example, if I chose 13 my list would begin: 13, 26, 39...247, 260.

Now apply your scavenger skills! Use books, clocks, addresses...anything you can safely investigate to find all 20 of your multiples from the list above! Try again with a new number.

Science:

For science summer enrichment, we are using an online educational game from Legends of Learning called Awakening to assist students in their understanding of science concepts. Legends of Learning is a research-based educational gaming company whose games are proven to have a positive impact on student performance.

Here is a short video that shows an older student playing. Video Students will need to use their school email to log in.
