15th of July- Today we received an assessment called a self-devised project, we talked about its different components, topics, due date and expectations. Today I decided on a topic which was a ballet called “Romero and Juliet.” I decided to look at its music score composed by Sergei Prokofiev, a Russian Composer. My topic, idea was heavily influenced by the Penrith Symphony orchestra, where we were preforming many Russian pieces. In class we were given until next lesson to decide our topic and write a list of related questions.

18th of July- Today I wrote my 10 questions, 7 low order and 3 high order questions. I researched the life of Prokofiev and was surprised to find information that linked Prokofiev to communist rule in Russia and his struggle for acceptance. This helped me to form questions that I thought was interesting.

19th of July- Today I started looking a pieces of works that Prokofiev had composed. I listened to a few and decided on 2 songs to analyse. - No 35 Finale act 2- Montague’s and Capulet’s

24th of July- Today I found some more interesting pieces to analyse, however I had to choose only five songs between them. I choose pieces that I thought were easier to analyse, looking for pieces that I could identify different parts/layers.

29th of July – I started my listening logs today I completed the first two listening logs however I was unsure where the specific sections in the piece were. I found the duration and texture sections the hardest.

7th of August- Today I class I started my composition I inserted the exact same baseline from my performance piece into the score. I then tried to make a melody (1st violin) using the triads, I found this hard. I was able to also start inserting a harmony taken from my melody. I started out with a string quartet.

11th of August- Today I made up a melody that was very similar to my performance piece on my violin. I instantly wrote it down and when I had finished realised that I had written 33 bars. I decided to incorporate my new ideas into my composition.

12th of August- Today I found that I was unable to locate and then open my composition, so I had no choice but to restart it. Completely using my new song I inserted the melody into the score. I changed my quartet into a trio deleting the viola to make more simple. I tried to form a new baseline but it clashed to much.

15th of August- Today I completed two more listening logs I also changed one of the analysis pieces. I went over my pervious logs and added my details that I did not notice before such as some expressive techniques.

16th of August- Today I started formed a base line using my performance piece’s baseline (using minims) and chords. There was some clashes so I changed my melody so that the first and third note was in the same triad.

19th of August- Today I adjusted my melody so that it fit into a 3 section structure. I started adding different ideas into my middle section which was initially only 8 bars long, however I decided that I had to extend the middle section so that I had the required amount of elective bars.

21th of August- Today I changed my got rid of some of my original ideas, as the rhythm did not work.

26th of August I started learning more of my performance piece while listening to clips on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1_JUTAO0SA

30th of August- Today I went into one of the music rooms with Anisah I tried to play my composition on the violin but some of the rhythms was not as I had intended. I tried to help Anisah make a violin melody for her composition.

2nd of September – Today I added new harmonies to my piece I also went back a listened over my piece to find any clashes. I then adjusted the note according to chord and the notes around it.

4th of September- Today research the life of Prokofiev I found my finding very interesting. I wrote an answer to one of my research questions

9th of September- I started adding in more bars in section 2 to extend my piece using ideas from my performance piece. In these bars I mostly used the same baseline from my performance piece. I completed 34 bars.

12th of August- today I created a website. After watching a tutorial I chose a theme that I thought was sophisticated. I took me a while to work out how to change the header image my result was worth the pain. I uploaded my listening logs and question.

13th of September- Today I added an ending to my piece. I then went back an added crescendos and decrescendos marking. I wished I had in enough time, as I wanted to add slurs and staccato markings, however I was able to insert a rall… at the end of my piece that end of my piece. I then learnt how it export it and uploaded it to my website.

14th of September- Today I recorded my piece and then uploaded it onto my website I also changed images on my website and then uploaded my activity log.
