Principal’s News Harmony Day – Thursday 21 March This week is Harmony Week. Tomorrow PPS is celebrating Australia’s cultural diversity through our annual Harmony Day celebration. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. All students are encouraged to participate by wearing either a cultural outfit they identify with or the colour orange (the colour of Harmony Week). Pymble Public School is a culturally diverse school community and one which celebrates diversity and difference. I look forward to tomorrow’s celebration. Harmony Week web link: https://www.harmony.gov.au Student Representative Council (SRC) Over the past few weeks our SRC representatives have been awarded their SRC badges and their important role at PPS has been acknowledged. Our SRC representatives represent the peers in their classes on the SRC. The SRC plays an important role by providing valuable input into various aspects at the school. The SRC discusses issues at the school and provides suggestions and ideas on how to improve our school and the experience of all students at PPS. I’d like to congratulate our 2019 SRC representatives and know they will serve the PPS students well this year. Parent Teacher Interviews Parent teacher interviews for Years 1-6 have been conducted over these last 2 weeks (Kindergarten interviews were held separately 2 weeks ago). School Toilets There are two sets of student toilet blocks, one at the back end of the Kindergarten block and one next to the POOSH room at the back of the school hall. These student toilets are for student use ONLY at all times. There is a designated visitor toilet at the back end of the school office / administration building. Should you need to use the visitor toilet and not know where it is located please ask at the School Office. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. Bruno Diodati Principal

Relieving Deputy Principals’ News

Harmony Day On Thursday, 21 March, we will be celebrating Harmony Day. All children from K-6 should come dressed in either their national dress or a touch of orange. During the day, classes will be talking about intercultural understanding and respect. State Election The Instrumental Program will be holding a sausage sizzle and cake stall in the school grounds at the State Election on Saturday. Please vote here and support our school. Lost Property On Thursday, some very kind class Mums will be sorting the lost property and returning named pieces of clothing to their rightful owners. Please make sure that you label anything that your child brings to school in the event that they lose it. Early morning arrival to school Please remember that any child who arrives at school before 8.30am should sit on the steps under the new shelter until the 8.30am bell rings. Class Lists In order for your details to appear on class lists accessed by other families, each family must add their children's names to the P&C database https://ppspandc.org/contacts . You are under no obligation to do this. However, those families who do not opt in, will not be included in emails sent out by class parents to the whole class.

K-2 Home Readers

Each year the school spends a lot of money updating our home readers. As these books are specifically designed to teach beginning reading and the mechanics of reading, they are more expensive than regular books. Each book is about $10 or sometimes more.

It is essential that your child returns the books taken home, in order to be able to borrow more. Every year, many of our home readers go missing which of course affects our home reading program. Please be advised that children can also be reading other books and appropriate material at home, as well as home readers. Once a child has mastered the basics of reading, it is important that he/she reads 'real' books so that the focus can be comprehension and fluency. Any books or other material such as magazines or newspapers that your children read, may be included on their reading logs.

Thank-you to those of you that have already paid your invoices and/or sent through your Creative Kids voucher.

• If you are planning to claim the creative kids voucher please only pay Semester 1 on your invoice. If you really wish to pay in full now then deduct $100 from the total payment amount (only if you have sent your voucher details already).
