PATTERN NOTES Each square is made with 2 colors. Chain-3 at beginning of row or round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Join rounds with slip stitch unless otherwise stated. AFGHAN BASIC SQUARE Make 60 dark blue/medium blue & 108 each medium blue/dark blue & medium blue/soft white. Rnd 1: With first color, ch 3, join in first ch to form ring, ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), 2 dc in ring, [ch 3, 3 dc in ring] 3 times, ch 3, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. Fasten off. Rnd 2: Join next color in any corner ch-3 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same ch-3 sp as beg ch-3, [ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner ch-3 sp] 3 times, ch 1, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. Fasten off 2nd color. BASIC SQUARE PANEL ASSEMBLY Sew Squares tog as shown in Basic Square Panel Assembly Diagram. There will be 3 Basic Square Panels. EMBROIDERY PANEL BACKGROUND Row 1: With dark blue, join in corner ch-3 sp of corner Square of 1 Basic Square Panel, work- ing across edge of all Squares, evenly sp 11 sc across top of each Square, turn. (231 sts) Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, changing color (see Stitch Guide) to soft white in last st, turn. Row 3: With soft white, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Rows 4–13: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Row 14: Ch 1, sc in each st across, changing color to dark blue in last st, turn. Rows 15 & 16: With dark blue, ch 1, sc in each st across. Fasten off at end of last row. Rep rows 1–16 on opposite side of same Basic Square Panel. EMBROIDERY PANEL Use stitches and colors shown on Embroidery Panel Dia- gram (see illustration) and in Embroidery Panel Key to em- broider as shown in photo.
