Rabbit & Rabbit Hopping Due to the concern of the spread of the RHDV2 virus, the remaining rabbit and rabbit hopping practices and shows are canceled this year. HOWEVER, the leaders are working on a way to involve members with the opportunity of educational presentations or showmanship (rabbits just can't be on the fairground this year). More details to come!

Sheep Show The sheep show is scheduled for Thursday, July 9. Weigh-in will run from 7:00 to 8:00 am and the show will begin at 10:00 am.

Youth must be at least 11 years old to participate and 12 to be in shotgun competitions. Contact Lindsay if interested.

Swine Show Weigh-in is on Thursday, July 9 from 10:00 am 2:00 pm. The show will begin at 5:00 pm.

Woodchips Woodchips will not be provided this year. Families are responsible for bringing their own.

YQCA Training All beef, bucket bottle, swine, sheep, dairy cattle, dairy goat, meat goat, rabbit, and poultry 4-H exhibitors are REQUIRED to be YQCA certified to exhibit at the county fair and State Fair. This cer tification shows our youth are working and learning to produce healthy, safe and quality food for market. There are two options to com-plete this requirement this year:

Option 1: Complete YQCA certification each year online at www.yqca.org and login using your 4HOnline credentials. You are responsible for a $12* fee per youth paid online when you register for the course. Open to all grade levels. Materials and modules are organized by grade. The online option must be completed by June 19. Visit the following link for instructions on completing the online process- https://www.extension.iastate.edu/4hfiles/ agriculture/YQCA/YQCAWebBasedMemberInstructions. pdf

Option 2: Attend YQCA face-to-face instructor led training for $3* per youth at the Fairgrounds Auditorium (changed location) on Monday, June 15 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Youth must pre-register and pay online before the face-to-face training- www.yqca.org

FSQA test outs will be honored from previous years until expiration dates.

Beef Show The beef show is scheduled for Friday, July 10. Weigh-in will run from 7:00 to 8:30 am and the show will begin at 10:30 am.

Cat Project The 4-H cat show is scheduled for Friday, July 10 at 7:00 pm in the Auditor ium.

Dog Project After discussion with the dog project leaders, the remaining dog project meetings and the 2020 4-H dog show are cancelled. It was going to be too difficult to maintain distancing and follow other safety guidelines while making it a safe and meaningful experience for our 4-H members.

Horse Project Due to COVID-19 concerns, the remaining horse project practices and the horse show are canceled. The safety of our 4-Hers, leaders, and families are top priority.

Goat Project There will be a Goat Project Showmanship Clinic June 17th at 6:00 pm at the Fairgrounds. Goat project members are invited to bring their goats and practice showmanship techniques. This will be beneficial for both the 4-Her and the goat to go to a new environment and to practice being “show day ready”! Questions about the clinic, fair, or your goats, feel free to contact Heather or Katie. Check in for the goat show is scheduled for Thursday, July 9 at 11:00 am and the show will begin at 2:00 pm.

4-H’ers for 4-H The 4-H’ers for 4-H Campaign helps to ensure that 4-H remains available and affordable for young people from across the state. The campaign helps to: Provide financial assistance to help 4-H’ers attend 4-

H camps or conferences Help 4-H members with financial need pay for their

annual enrollment fee Fund speakers and entertainment at the State 4-H

Youth Conference, keep registration fees affordable for everyone!

Clubs or individuals are encouraged to consider donating to the 4-H’ers for 4-H Campaign. The Iowa 4-H Foundation is asking each 4-H club in Iowa to donate $3.00 per member to the campaign. Donations are due to the Extension Office by June 15. Contact Lindsay with any questions.

4-H T-shirts Our office has plenty of Webster County 4-H t-shirts available! Prices are S-L for $9 each and XL-XXL for $10 each. Call our office and we will meet you at the door with your shirt. Shirts will also be available at the livestock office at the Fairgrounds during judging week.

4-H Newsletters We are excited that newsletters are available to read anywhere! Newsletters are emailed through 4HOnline to all 4-H members who have enrolled in 4HOnline. The newsletter will continue to be available on your 4HOnline homepage, Facebook, and our website. A physical newsletter will continue to be sent to club leaders. Prefer a physical copy? Please email Janel ([email protected]) to request a physical copy mailed to you.

Thank you, NEW Cooperative! We are extremely thankful for NEW Cooperative’s commitment to supporting our local 4-H youth. Recently, the foundation donated $39,870 to 127 area 4-H clubs totaling to be 2,664 individual 4-H members. The money is donated for half of each 4-H youth’s dues in NEW Cooperative’s trade territory, which includes Webster, Calhoun, Carroll, Greene, Franklin, Sac, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Hamilton, Kossuth, Cherokee, Crawford, Plymouth, Monona, Wright, and Woodbury counties. NEW Cooperative takes great pride in supporting their area youth 4-H programs. They strongly feel that 4-H helps youth build the foundation to become future leaders in the local communities. They are excited for them as they gain all of the valuable skills and knowledge the 4-H program offers.

No Club Booths this year In order to allow for social distancing and monitor space, we will not be doing the traditional club booths this year. The plan is to utilize the space where the club booths traditionally were located to help spread judging out and follow the social distancing guidelines.

Gift Cards in Place of Premiums The Webster County Fair Board has done a fantastic job in the past to raise money through donations and/or fundraising. However with COVID-19, the funds were difficult to raise this year. With that being said, there will be no fair premiums this year. However, we are excited to announce that the Webster County 4-H Foundation has agreed to give each Webster County 4-H’er/FFA exhibitor a $10 gift card to the Dariette. 4-H’er/FFA must exhibit to receive the gift card and only one card per exhibitor. We are very thankful for the Webster County 4-H Foundation’s generosity.

Static Judging FAQs What do I bring to Static Judging Day? 1) Your exhibit(s) 2) Your entry tag 3) Your exhibit “write-up”. What is a write-up? [Please reference fair book pages 64-67]. A write-up should answer questions the questions listed in item #14 based on your exhibit goal and tell the story of the exhibit. When appropriate, they should also include the elements and principles of design. Goals should be complete, and well written, and should correlate with the class they are in. All exhibit areas, (except classes iden-tified on pg. 65) should have a goal sheet. Sometimes this in-cludes photos showing the steps or process used to create the exhibit. What are the “elements and principles of design”? [please reference fair book pages 68-70] Specifically for visual arts, clothing, home improvement, and sewing & needle arts, elements and principles of design should be discussed. Static Judging FAQs We are excited for our 4-H static judging day Tuesday, July 7! We are excited for the opportunity our 4-Hers will have to showcase their projects, meet with judges, and learn from their experiences. Your 4-Her will come in during the time their club is sched-uled (found in the fair book on page 13). Since we are not doing club booths this year, we will be spreading out judging space to follow social distancing and safety guidelines. To help keep everyone safe, we will follow these guidelines:

Only 4-H members and 1-2 guests will be allowed in the auditorium during judging. Club leaders will also be allowed in the building to provide help to their club members if needed.

If a 4-Her does not feel comfortable coming to the audi-torium, a Zoom judging experience will be offered. You must notify Lindsay as soon as possible or by Wednesday, July 1 at the latest if you choose this op-tion.

4-Hers will enter through the west side auditorium (south entrance, main doors). This will be indicated with an “Enter here” sign on both sides of the door.

They will check-in with the helpers, have their picture taken with their projects & find their judging station.

Safety guidelines for food exhibits are still being discussed, but there will NOT be a bake sale this year. Watch for more details on food exhibits.

Judges and staff will be required to wear a face mask throughout the whole day. 4-H members are encouraged to keep each other safe and wear a mask if possible.

The judges will be spread out 6 feet apart from the 4-Hers.

The judges will be notified to NOT shake 4-Hers’ hands before and after their judging.

Hand sanitizer will be available at each judging station.

Helpers with facemasks on will be walking around the building to help with sanitizing tables, bathrooms, etc.

4-Hers will take their exhibits and entry sheet with them when they are finished judging UNLESS their items get held back for further consideration. Since decisions are not made until the end of the day for further considerations, 4-H members will be contacted for when their exhibits can be picked up.

When the 4-Hers are finished judging, they will check out at the east side of the auditorium by the small kitchen area. At check-out they will turn in their judging sheet and receive their ribbons. You must turn in your forms in order to get your ribbons.

Then they will exit through the south side doors where an “Exit here” sign will be posted with their exhibits and they are done for the day! Thank you for your understanding and making this a positive experience for our 4-H members.
