Volunteer Spotlight

Name: Trish Wanat

Volunteer Position: Jr. Lego League Leader

1. How long have you been a 4-H volunteer? 2 years (my mom has been a 4-H leader for 20+ years)

2. What do you enjoy most about your 4-H role? I enjoy giving the kiddos an opportunity to explore or do something they might not have had the chance to do otherwise. Additionally, I enjoy watching their confidence grow!

3. What do you like to do in your spare time? In my spare time (with four kids, spare time is very rare), I enjoy doing all sorts of things I learned to do when I was a 4-H’er: baking cookies, gardening, quilting, photography, crafting, woodworking, etc. I always like to try new things...which right now is beekeeping.

4. What is on your bucket list? I would like to visit the Vatican.

5. What is your favorite quote? More of a story than a quote, but I grew up with this saying (thanks, Mom) and it’s the reason I volunteer... “Whose Job Is It, Anyway?” This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have.

Fair T-Shirts County Council member, Kylie Weiland, did an excellent job designing shirts for this summer’s fair. The cost for a t-shirt is $15. Families have two choices for t-shirt orders this year. They can be ordered through your club leader or new this year, we are trying a link for families to submit their order. It’s super simple and just asks for family name, club name, t-shirt sizes, and quantity. Payment is due from the family to the office by June 11 to complete their order. Here is the link: https://iastate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_07zgHvuQ0vHz5sN

*Note: These shirts are just for fun and not allowed to be worn when your 4-H’er is exhibiting at the fair.

Pinterest Are you eager to showcase what you’ve found on Pinterest at the county fair? Great! Just be sure to keep a couple things in mind when using Pinterest, or other internet sources, when preparing your 4-H exhibits for fair: Check out our website and your 4hOnline account for a helpful document on “Pinterest to projects.”
