Aloha Lions, September has come and gone so quickly, October has passed and here we go, full steam ahead, into the holiday season.

Decorations have gone up in the stores, with ribbons, wrap-ping paper, gift baskets, and every kind of holiday snack ready to be purchased and delivered to your favorite mail-man, hairdresser, doctor’s, and dentist’s office. The final proof the holidays are here is the Toys’R’Us insert in the Sunday paper and the neighbors are turning on their Christmas lights that never actually came down last year. Leo Club Induction Ceremony

Koko Head Elementary School enthusiastically responded to the news of our increased budget of $750 offered to them by the Hawaii Kai Lions Club. Over the past 5 years, the school has requested and received a total of 36 commercial wall fans for their classrooms and six 6-ft tables for assemblies. This, of course, is in addition to all of the Lions manpower support provided to the school for its annual Keiki Karnivals and other fundraising endeavors. With the increased budget, Koko Head requested a longer and more expansive shopping list of much-needed equipment which included three 6-ft folding tables, five commercial grade garbage cans, one garbage can dolly, sixteen junior soccer balls, and 12 junior basketballs. Lions PDG Roy Aoki and Ken Nishibun, made the presentation to Koko Head Elementary School Principal Jeffrey Shitaoka on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. Principal Shitaoka extends his sincere appreciation for all the support that the Hawaii Kai Lions have given in the past and continue to give to Koko Head Elementary School.

Centennial Club & Member Awards

President Jeanne Alices, Zone Chair David Iwana, Lion William Modglin all received Gold Centennial Awards and 1st VP Sandra Gomes received a Silver Centennial Award. These awards were given because these members sponsored new members into our club and have since remained active. The Club also received the Premier Cen-tennial Award patch, which will be sewed on our banner. Congratulations Lions!

Submitted by Lion Peggy Oyama In October, the Rescue Tube Project Committee continued to visit other clubs to seek support in an effort to spread the project throughout Oahu and the neighbor islands. On October 10th, David Iwana and Peggy Oyama, accompanied by Marja Leivo and Paula Chow, presented to the Kamehameha Lions at Zippy's on Vineyard, then on October 14th, Bill Modglin and Peggy Oyama, accompanied by Sandy Gomes, spoke to the Manoa Lions Club at Maple Garden restaurant. Bill and Peggy next spoke to the Moanalua Lions on October 18th at Mapunapuna's 99 Ranch. David and Peggy subsequently spoke to the Ala Moana Lions October 24th at Zippy's Makiki, and then to the Chinatown Lions on October 26th at Golden Palace restaurant. This month's tour was topped off by two presentations by Eric Kvick and Bill Modglin at the District 50 Q2 Cabinet meeting and at a panel on fundraising at the District 50 Forum, both held on October 28th at Damien School. If any new Lions would like to accompany our speakers to other club meetings to see how different club meetings are handled, please contact Peggy. The Rescue Tube commit-tee will continue to give presentations to clubs and com-munity organizations throughout the rest of the year and into 2018. If you know any community groups that may be interested in the Rescue Tube Project, please give your suggestions to Eric Kvick. If you are able to donate to the project, please write your check to the Hawaii Kai Lions Club, specifying the rescue tube project, and give to Eric or any one of the team members. We are pushing to place an order for more tubes by the end of January, so your support now would be greatly appreciated!
