EnergyICT’s latest WebRTU® Z3 data concentrator is developed for collecting, storing and transmitting energy consumption data and process parameters and meets the requirements of today’s global energy management and smart metering markets.

Energy Market Drivers

The WebRTU Z3 is part of EnergyICT®’s

answer to evolutions in the international smart

metering markets.

Specifically for the German energy market, the

WebRTU Z3 takes up the role of a MUC or a

multi-utility controller; which is able to collect

energy consumption data from electricity, gas

and water meters via wireless M-Bus and is

IP-enabled for upstream communication to a

central software platform.

Smart Grid Applications

EnergyICT recognizes that Smart Grids require

a central two-way modern communication

device for gas, water, and electricity meter

data collection and messaging able to govern

a limited amount of meters in a confined area.

To meet this special requirement, EnergyICT

developed the WebRTU Z3 to support a variety

of communication possibilities to meter devices,

endpoints and home automation systems.

When deployed in large volumes, a key

differentiator for the WebRTU Z3 is the ease

with which it can be installed and configured,

meaning that the required configurations on

the device are fast, straightforward and error-

free. The device performs a self-check and

auto-detects any available hardware/sensors

at power-up and is configured by means of

a locally hosted web interface or remotely by

EIServer.

Smarter Grids

Energy Management

The WebRTU Z3 can be placed inside homes

creating a residential IP-enabled gateway

per home, but can also be installed at a

utility substation acting as a concentrator

gateway for a small neighborhood, allowing

communication costs to be spread over

several metering devices.

Energy Management Applications

For multi-site industrial companies

and major retailers, concentrating and

transmitting energy consumption data

from dispersed meters has always been

a challenge. Remote data collection from

isolated endpoints or in hard-to-reach

environments is solved by EnergyICT by

deploying advanced data concentrators,

like the WebRTU Z3, with conventional

and the latest communication interfaces

towards energy meters (e.g. from pulse

and RS48S to M-Bus over RF).

The integration of the WebRTU Z3 with

multiple communication networks allows

the user to send the gathered consumption

data worldwide. In other words, companies

can perform benchmarking and compare

the data from their different sites, wherever

they are located, in real-time and group

them.

Likewise, the WebRTU Z3 is the perfect

solution for small and medium enterprises

that want to actively start managing their

energy consumption and for remote data

collection from isolated endpoints.

Advanced Communication Possibilities

Upstream Communication to +

EIServer over IP: Typically, utilities

and large industrial companies use

the WebRTU Z3 in combination with

EnergyICT’s advanced EIServer

Meter Data Management solution.

The consumption data logged by the

WebRTU Z3 is automatically uploaded

to the EIServer’s central database

using DLMS via LAN or GSM/GPRS. This

flexible system provides utilities with a

real-time survey of the metering data.

Remote metering for invoicing and

service contracts and quality control are

only a few of the elaborate possibilities.

Gateway over IP Capability in +

combination with EIServer: In this

case, the WebRTU Z3 serves as gateway

between the EIServer platform and

ModBus meters, routing frames of the

ModBus protocol from and to its RS485

port, enabling EIServer to communicate

with ModBus meters, without needing

the WebRTU Z3 to interprete or

understand ModBus. the 2-wire RS485

port enables the connection of up to 255

devices into a single ModBus network

with configurable baudrate (default:

9600).

Standard Features and Communication Interfaces

The device is built around a core feature

set and comes in a solid and strong ABS

box shielding the interior from external

factors in any industrial environment.

Standard functionality includes:+32 channels in firmware of which 4 are

connected to local input/output channels

(2DI, 2DO)

+Real-time clock to timestamp data from

meter readings. Clock supports DST + time

zones, and synchronization is possible via

time server, EIServer or concentrator.
