Whether we think of ourselves as dancers or not, we’ve all had moments of happiness or excitement that made us want to jump up and move to music around us or in our heads. Dance can be freeform movement to the rhythmic beat of a disco song or executing perfect ballet moves choreographed for classical compositions. Folk dances express cultural traditions, hip-hop builds on the rhythms of city life, while jazz dancing explodes with energy and originality. Your group might learn and perform a folk dance, choreograph individual routines to favorite songs, or demonstrate a classic ballroom dance. Complete this exploration guide to learn about dance and get ideas for your own work. Choose a project you’re all interested in and can all contribute to. Make it beautiful, truthful, silly, serious, expressive, or all of those things at once, depending on your choreography and music! Your video should show your performances and also tell about why you chose, wrote, or performed the dances as you did and what they mean to or say about each of you.
