Seat Design PRIMARY METAL SECONDARY SOFT

secondaryprotectedO-ring seal

The seats are composed of an outer andinner ring connected mechanically bymeans of a locking ring. The two-pieceseat permits the assembly withoutdamaging the o-ring seal.

The ring design is such that it will permit thedeformation of the o-ring when it ispushed against the valve ball.

The soft o-ring seal guarantees the best

primarymetal to metalseal

The soft o-ring seal guarantees the bestpossible seal, in terms of seat leakage.

The seat also has a metal seal made by theinner seat ring. When the o-ring is fullydeformed against the ball, the metal seatring will also be in contact with the ball.

The ball and seat must be coated with ENP toprevent galling. The ENP also provides alow-friction surface which lowers the valvetorque.

The metal seat provides protection for the o-ring, and serves as a fire safe feature.

Page 12: WEBINAR Welded Body Ball Valves, June 2013

Seat Design SOFT SEAT

The plastic seal (insert) ispressed into the seat ring. The dimension of the grooveis slightly smaller then thedimension of the insert, creating an interference fit.

plastic insertThe interference fit prevents theinsert from extruding out ofthe seat ring duringoperation.

Seat Design METAL TO METAL SEAT

The metal-to-metal seat isprovided with both the balland the seat coated inTungsten Carbide Coating(TCC).

Seat Design PISTON EFFECTThe Piston Effect is a sealing principle involved in utilisingline pressure to effect a seal across the floating seat.

Seat Design SELF RELIEVINGThe Self Relieving is a process whereby the excessiveinternal body pressure is automatically relieved either into theupstream or downstream line by forcing the seats away fromthe closure element.

Seat Design DOUBLE PISTON EFFECTWith the DPE seat configuration when the upstream seatleaks, the pressure entering into the body cavity act on thedownstream seat, which being of the PPE design, is thenpushed against the ball and the valve seals.
