PRESENTER: R. DAN ALLEN

The webinar’s instructor, Mr. Dan Allen, has dedicated forty years to the study of anatomy and physiology relating to surgical patient posturing and positioning, and he has invented important patient positioning devices such as surgical stirrups, a unique Trendelenburg positioner, and a line of robotic surgery positioning devices. Mr. Allen is recognized as an authority on patient positioning and pressure management in the operating room and has addressed a number of groups of OR nurses, surgeons and hospital staff around the world.

His webinar offers a opportunity to learn about the challenges modern surgical techniques bring to Trendelenburg positioning. You will explore a brief history of what has proven to work best for this patient posture and the risks associated with extreme Trendelenburg positioning. The latest information from recent studies will be presented that discuss how to determine the necessary tilt for successful surgery and how robotic surgery has made proper Trendelenburg positioning an even higher priority. Finally, the discussion on proper patient positioning in the head-down position will help you in your every day practice.

In this webinar, the learning objectives for attendees are to be able to:• Describe historical path of Trendelenburg positioning• Explain physical ramifications of extreme Trendelenburg positioning• Understand the unforeseen patient positioning injury risks

associated with robotic surgery• Compare and contrast contemporary Trendelenburg patient

positioning requirements for conventional MIS and robotic surgery
