Copy definitions in your notes:

Anxiety- an abnormal and overwhelming sense of apprehension and fear often marked by physiological signs

Generalized Anxiety- is a more general form of anxiety that brings with it distressing symptoms such as trembling, irritability, insomnia, feelings or unreality, and depression.

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)- difficulty coping in social situations. Quite often one will have very low self-confidence and fear what other people might think. The anxiety may cause excessive sweating, blushing, palpitations or even dizziness.

Panic Disorder- severe attacks of panic, often producing distressing physical symptoms that feel as if one is having a heat attack or even dying.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder- recurrent, unwanted thoughts or rituals that the individual cannot control and impairs functioning.

Activity: Awareness Poster

~Divide the class into 5 groups. Each group will be given information on one of the following topics listed below from the website- www.anxietybc.com

Topics-

Facing Fears Thinking Right How to Chill Healthy Habits Common Problems

(Teacher will print off information from the site and give to the groups to use in class)

Success Criteria for the Poster: Place on LCD or copy and give to all students

o Represent 3 key ideas from the website onto the poster (clear understanding of the facts and information on topic)

o Add 3 quotes to the poster that relate to the key messageo Add at least 3 images, symbols, graphics, labels to represent topico Include a catchy slogan or phrase to bring awareness to the topico Focus on the conventions in my poster- including design, layout, neatness, size, title, etc.o Include one contact information detailing where someone could go for helpo Present my poster to the class, explaining the topic and raising awareness for others
