Uneven development is the uneven distribution of population and capital within an area. Uneven development is the uneven distribution of population and capital within an area. It is shaped by human and non-human actions whose logics exceed those of the market1; other factors which contribute to uneven development include location, recession and globalisation.

1964: During the 1960’s Ireland was still dependant on agriculture, it saw a boom in the Irish economy under the rule of Sean Lemass and the war of independence was coming to an end.

Limericks population was 507862 with Rathkeale and Newcastle West containing the most. As Ireland was an agriculture country industries were just developing leaving 9753 in the Limerick suburbs while Rathkeale and Newcastle West were both agriculture towns which suited the People of Ireland at this time, but in the nexr 25 years there was a rise in the industy in Limerick city.

1989: This time saw a downfall in the Irish economy, due to an extreme amount of borrowing and global economic led to high unemployment and emigration. This led to a flood of people moving near the city 56798 as it was easier to find jobs and cheaper to

live. At this stage Limerick City became densely populated while Rathkeale and Newcastle West remained agriculture towns with around 23451.

2014: Today Limerick city remains the most populated area in Limerick as is the economic CBS of limerick, while the areas around limerick have also expanded with large town in the county being Newcastle West, Abbeyfeale, Rathkeale, Croom and kilmalock. Due to the major population growth in recent years this has cause to expand making it one of the larger cities in Ireland.
