How many synonyms can you find for the word happy?

This week, we will be looking at our core text: Lila and the Secret of Rain. Do not worry! You do not need the book. I have all the pages and resources for you.

Look at the page below for Monday’s reading and activities!

“Before” or “because”? Which is the best conjunction?

I bought a present for my brother______ It’s his birthday.

I wrapped the present______ I wrote his card.

My dog likes going for walks______ he’s full of energy.

Lila needs to find a way to make the rain for her village to be able work properly again.

What could she do? Could she create a rain dance? What would she say/chant/sing?

Your task today is to write a rain chant or song that Lila and her villages could say to make the rain come.

You could…

· Make your chant rhyme.

· Add repetitive words.

· Add different words for rain.

· Add different verbs for how the rain might fall down.

I have some examples for you to look at below.

· Maybe you could write or type your chant in best and put it on a rain background?

Replace “said” with a better word:

“Oh no, not more homework,” said the children.

“Wow, a new bike” said George.

“I’m going to turn you into a frog,” said the witch.

One evening Lila’s grandfather told her a story about a man that he’d met once when he was a boy – a man who had told him the secret of the rain.

What do you think the secret of the rain? Make a thought bubble and write as many of your suggestions as possible around it.

Extension: Could you write the conversation between Lila and her grandfather talking about the secret of the rain. Remember to use inverted commas (speech marks “”) and a new line for a new speaker.

Fri

Spend time practising your spellings from the weekly spelling plan. Remember to choose the correct group.

Relax and Read

Choose anything you can read in your house. Sit or lie somewhere comfy and tell everyone that you need 20 mins to yourself. Set a timer or get a parent to set a timer. Once the 20 mins is up tell someone about what you have just read.

One night Lila overheard her mama talking about the well that had dried up and the crops that were falling.

“Without water there can be no life,” Lila heard her mama say.

Lila wanted so much for the sun to stop shining and for the rain to come.

But the sun did not stop shining and the rain did not come.
