Weekly Planner Week commencing: Monday 11 th May 2020 Class: Year 5 Squirrels and Otters Languages, Literacy and Communication Writing Task 1 – This week you will be using the picture “Being Big’ from 'Pobble 365’ as a stimulus for your written work. The task is to continue the story, but we would like you to focus on using the “Sentence Challenge,” first as a stimulus for your writing. Be creative as you can and try to include lots of adjectives to describe the setting, key feelings and emotions. https://www.pobble365.com/being-big Here are some tasks you can try from the activity: Read the 'Story Starter,' Can you continue the story about being big? Alternatively, you could write a poem about life as a giant. You could even write a diary extract about what happened when you’re someone that size step over the wall. You can even draw a picture showing what the enormous person did next. Other Activities to try: Can you improve the 'Sick Sentence,’ by adding extra detail? Revise what adjectives are using them to improve the sentences in the 'Sentence Challenge.' Practise using a thesaurus to help develop your use of adventurous vocabulary. . Languages, Literacy and Communication Writing Task 1 – This week you will be using the picture “Being Big’ from 'Pobble 365’ as a stimulus for your written work. Reading Comprehension Challenge – We have uploaded the answers to last week’s reading challenge ‘The Lost Queen’ for you to check. This week’s comprehension is called “Rain and Shine.” Give yourself 30minutes to read the booklet then work your way through the answer booklet developing key skills of inference and deduction. Answers to the comprehension challenge will be uploaded on Friday so you can check how you have done.

This week’s article focuses on Eton Musk’s dream of providng the whole world with hih speed internet using satellites in space. The question to consider is;- “Who does Outer Space Belong to?”

There is also a picture newspaper for you to read with articles on an amazing performance at home from “Cirque de Soleil,” and the use of robotic gorillas! Take a read!

Mathematics and NumeracyActive Learn Update News- Important!

Active Learn are looking to update some of their features on 16th May. Usernames and passwords will have to be re-entered when you first log in after this date. If you usually have the login details saved on your device then please make a note of them prior to this change.

This WeekThis week we have allocated work on Active Learn linked to methods of multiplication. We have uploaded examples of The “Grid method,” The “Ladder Method,” and the “Compact Method.” Please learn these until you are confident with at least one of these methods and then practise, practise, practise! Ask your family to give you questions to complete. Some other activities this week include ‘Marble Factory,’ problem solving challenge, a homework sheet and 3 fluency fitness challenges: ‘Money Magic,’ ‘What is the Time,’ and ‘Shared Out’ A speaking and listening activity,” Marble Run,” has also been allocated to your Active Learn. Activities can be accessed via HWB/TEAMS or on your Active Learn account. Remember, the answer sheet to the homework task will be uploaded at the end of the week.
