Week 2 Number: continue to practice recognising, ordering and counting numbers up to 5,10 or 20. Please also use objects to see if your child is secure with 1:1 correspondence. For instance, matching the number 5 to 5 objects. Also remember when looking at numbers beyond 10, remind your child that it is one group of 10, or 2 groups of 10. This will help with their understanding of place value. I would recommend to spend about 5- 10 minutes a day on this activity. Key vocabulary to use and explain: place value, order, match, count, tens column and ones column. Maths: Space, shape and measure. Learning Objectiv e Activity 1 Activity 2 To explore and describe 2D shapes. You can use masking tape or lolly pop sticks to do this. Ask your child to use Lego or any other small objects that you can find and place it on top of the masking tape/sticks. Talk about the 2D shapes and their features. Use the pieces of paper to make tile pattern/ mosaic picture. Again talk about the 2D features and ask them to describe their pattern. Key Vocabulary to use and explain: repeating pattern, square, corners, edges, sides, describe.

Week 2Number: continue to practice recognising, ordering and counting numbers up to 5,10 or 20.

Learning Objective

Activity 1 Activity 2

To explore and describe 2D shapes.

You can use masking tape or lolly pop sticks to do this. Ask your child to use Lego or any other small objects that you can find and place it on top of the masking tape/sticks.

Talk about the 2D shapes and their features. You could make squares, rectangles, triangles, hexagons or pentagons.

Key vocabulary to use and explain: corners, edges, length, size, number of,

sides, square, rectangle, hexagon, pentagon and triangle

You could use 2 different pieces of paper and ask your child to draw either a circle, triangle, square or rectangle, before cutting it out.

Use the pieces of paper to make tile pattern/ mosaic picture.

Again talk about the 2D features and ask them to describe their pattern.

Key Vocabulary to use and explain: repeating pattern, square, corners, edges, sides, describe.

Learning Activity 1 Activity 2 Activity 3- same learning objective but also using language

Objective associated with addition or subtraction. To use everyday language associated with money.

Look at coins, use pennies and pounds. For example, 1p, 2p, 5p or £1 or £2 coins. Talk about the words pence and pounds.

Spread the coins out and sort them.

Extension: Can they put the coins in order of size/value?

Key vocabulary to use and explain: coins, money, pence and pound, size, largest, smallest.

Use coins to make a mini beast picture, be as creative as you can be. I would recommend using 1p or 2ps.

Extensions to help with counting:Can your child count in 1’s or 2’s to see how much money they have used?

Key vocabulary to use and explain: equals, count, total.

Role play shops, resturants, cinemas, art galleries or museums or anything that your child is interested in. Use money as part of this role play. For example, how much will that be? That will be 5 pence please.

Extenstion:Use 1p or 2p coins for this. If something costs 4p and this costs 2p how much does it cost all together. So, 4p +2p=6p.If something costs 6p and I have 10p, how much change will I get? So, 10p – 6p = 4p.

Key vocabulary to use and explain: Add, subtract, equals, total, pence, pound, change

Further extension with a Literacy purpose:

Look at reciepts and talk about their features. For example, they contain the product name, the shops name, the date, the amount of the products etc.

During role play encourage your child to make you a reciept.

If you are playing restaurants, challenge them to make their own menu, writing down the food and how much it will cost.

Key vocabulary to use and explain: product, features, purchase.
