How to set up a project in Adobe premiere pro

To start a project in premiere pro, you must first hit the start button and select the Adobe premiere pro CS5.5 shortcut. This will start up the program.

When the program starts up, you will encounter this screen. It will give you three options. The first is “new project”. This option gives you the ability to start a brand new video file and this is the one that you will be using today. The other two options, “open project” and “help” give you the ability to open pre-existing files and advice on how to work the program respectively.

When you click the “New project” button, this screen comes up. On it you can select the location of where you want the save files to be stored. At the bottom there is the “name” box. Here you can name the project. You can also change the “Video rendering and playback”, “Video”, “Audio” and “Capture” options, but they are fine as they are.

After that, you come to this screen. It will give you options on what kind of video format you want the video to be in. You should set it to PAL and set to Standard 48Hz. The reason for this is that PAL is the standard video code for Europe and it will not play on machines here if set to any other. The reason you set it to Standard 48Hz is so that it sounds good and it matches the camera settings.

After all of the setting up, you finally come to this screen, the preview screen. It is here that all of the work happens. This includes organizing the video clips into the right order, tuning the sound to the right volume and inserting a soundtrack.

There are a few different parts to this layout, including the source video player in the top-centre were you drag clips in from the left hand side, view them and edit them into varying lengths. Then there’s the timeline. This is used to organize the films footage and sound so that they form a cohesive narrative.

Here is an example of a project in action. You can see the various pieces of the layout at work and how they work. For example the place where the clips are located is full of them and the clip player is shown here selecting were the part of the clip is needed starts and were it ends, this done by using the I and O keys on the keyboard. You can also drag just the sound or just the video by dragging the one of the two icons down to the time line, these being the speaker or the film strip respectively.

Here you can see that you can also change the decibel level of the clip’s sound. This can make the video quieter or louder depending on if you lower the decibels or raise them, respectively.
