Welcome!Welcome to another summer of fun, enrichment, instruction and recreation! This brochure offers activities, lessons, events and trips for all. Let BLHS Community Ed Summer Recreation help crate your children’s summer fun and memories of playing with friends, learning new things, warm days, laughter and fun! Participants will receive a T-shirt so please include your child’s t-shirt size on the registration! Please note some activities require volunteers and/or chaperones, if we want to offer these events and trips your help is needed!

BLHS Community Education Summer Recreation will begin Monday June 4, 2018. Please go to http://www.blhsd.org Community Education page for updates to this brochure, added activities or changes to the program Please contact Andrea Plaisance at [email protected] with any questions or activity suggestions. Please register by the date listed on the activity or event, if no date is listed registration is due May 25, if after registration due date, please contact Andrea for approval, there will be a $5 late fee assessed for late registrations. Note there are some activities and events that require a minimum number of participants, if we do not get the required number of participants the activity will be cancelled. Where a grade is indicated use the grade the child will be entering going into this fall unless otherwise stated. Be sure to include a phone number and email on the registration for so we can contact you if necessary. For cancellations or changes to registered events and email and/or text message will be sent with the notification. In case of inclement weather please check our Facebook change for updates. Summer Enrichment ProgramsProgram #1: Summer Adventures, Exploring the Treasures of 4-HSponsored by Renville County 4-HDates: June 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18 (No Class Week of July 4th)Time: 10:00 AM-11:00 AMCost: $20Location: Buffalo Lake Community Center (subject to chain)Description: Would you like to find hidden treasure? Treasures like friends, projects, activities, & FUN! 4-H can help you explore yourself, your family, & your community. Join use for hands on 'learn by doing' activities. Don't worry, you don't have to be enrolled in 4-H to participate! 5 weeks of fun!Grade: K-5There is a minimum of 7 participants for this program.

Program #2: Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre (participants must be at least 7 years old)Dates: Auditions July 9th

Program #5: School Readiness Summer Program/Kindergarten Jump StartDate: August 6th-17th (Monday – Friday)Time: 8:00 AM-11:00 AMFee: $100 (Made out to ECFE) and can be paid at once or in 2 paymentsLocation: Buffalo Lake Elementary SchoolDescription: We will be working on Kindergarten Readiness skills as we explore, creast and have fun. WATER ADVENTURES **All Ages – All children Kindergarten and younger must be accompanied by an adult for all the water adventures;. Some of these water adventures leave shortly after another activity, if your child is in an activity right before the bus leaves they can leave from the town their first activity is and bring their bags/lunches with them to the first activity. CHILD MUST BE ABLE TO SWIM ON THEIR OWN.

Includes a zero depth, a diving area, an aquaclimb climbing wall, a plunge area consisting of 2 slides, and more! Youth, from Buffalo Lake or Stewart, who are interested in taking swimming lessons at the Hector Pool may sign-up to ride a bus for the 12:00 NOON lessons during Session 2 (July 5- July 18) and Session 3 (July 23- August 3) This is the only session that transportation will be available. If interested, fill-out the regular form that is sent out by Duane Hauer for the actual swimming lessons. This form is also on the BLHS website. Register for the bus transportation on the summer recreation registration form. A BLHS van or bus will pick-up at the Stewart City Park at 11:30 am and pick-up at the BLHS Elementary School in Buffalo Lake at 11:45 am. It will leave Hector at 12:45 pm for the return trip to Buffalo Lake and Stewart. Cost of all 10 rides: $15 total per participant, with a maximum of $30 per family. Note that this is only the cost of the transportation. You must sign-up separately for the lessons. The Swimming Pool is financed by the City of Hector and the transportation is provided by BLHS Community Education

Time: All DayFee: $10 for transportation, free will donation at the zooDescription: The zoo features a seal island, a large cat exhibit, a variety of aquatic life, primates, birds, African hoofed animals and a world-class polar bear exhibit. The Marjorie McNeely Conservatory is a half-acre indoor and outdoor facility with a number of different wings dedicated to a variety of plant life including bonsai trees, ferns, orchids, and seasonal flowers. Spending money for food, souvenirs and treats is needed if you would like any of that while there. Transportation: Leaving Olivia Municipal Parking Lot at 7:30 am, Bird Island (Broaster) at 7:45, High School parking lot in Hector at 8:00 am, Buffalo Lake Elementary at 8:15 am, and Cactus Jacks II in Stewart at 8:30 am. Bring a bag lunch that is labeled with your name. Coolers will be provided to keep food cool. We will return around 5:30 pm.

Plus, there's no sales tax on clothing or shoes!Transportation: Leaving High School parking lot in Hector at 9:00 am, Buffalo Lake Elementary at 9:15 am, and Cactus Jacks II in Stewart at 9:30 am. Children under 14 must be chaperoned by an adult.

MOTORCOACH TOURS To sign-up for the motorcoach trips, please use the individual forms attached and note the deadline date for each. No refunds unless you find your own replacement. Other pick-up spots will be scheduled, if needed.

General Rules For Students1. Encourage students to leave valuables at home. The Community Education Department and Recreation Staff are not responsible for any lost or stolen valuables.

2. In case of inclement weather, call the school

activity line for cancellations. Phone Number: 320-848-2233 and upon connecting press 401 for the student activities line.

3. Bring a personal water bottle with your name on it – participants will not be going in the school for drinks.

4. Except as part of official BLHS activities, no rides will be given by the BLHS Summer Recreation Staff.

If there are not enough participants for an activity, we will let you know and your money will be refunded. Scholarships are available for some activities, if needed. Email [email protected], for more information.
