THE CIVILIZATION PROJECT In a group, create your very own civilization! Now that you’ve learned all about geography and the features of civilization, it’s time to put your expertise to the test!
Task: Create a civilization map!
Location: when designing your civilization map, consider the physical features needed for protection, food supply, access to trade or water, etc. You may choose a real location in the world, alter one to suit your needs or create a whole new one of your own!
Features: after designing the physical geography of your civilization map, consider what features you will need to help your civilization sustain itself and continue to develop.
Arts & culture: (e.g. statue, museum) Commerce: (e.g. market,
trade routes) Government: (e.g. city hall) Knowledge transfer &
technology: (e.g. schools, workshops, media)
Living/ working space (e.g. houses & farms)
Public works: (e.g. roads, bridges, arena)
Religion: (e.g. temple) Social structure: (town square, jobs)
*Think of this map like you are producing a high-quality game board. It must be fully coloured, neatly labeled, and easy to understand. It can take the form of a poster board, 3D model or digital display. Please see me to gain approval before beginning work.
*Prepare to showcase your work in a class gallery walk on the due date!
*REPORT* Each group member must complete a typed report, including the following:
1. Describe the features of your map.2. Explain why you chose its particular location, geographical features, and
inclusion/placement of buildings. 3. How is your civilization similar or different from examples you’ve studied?
