Freya is a superhero. I originally intended for her to be a villain, but the design that I chose to model suits a hero much better in my opinion. Originally, I had planned to do a robot like humanoid character but quickly scrapped that idea in order to give way to- in my opinion, a better back story and character. Her design is influenced by several things. Harry Potter being one of my main inspirations, mainly background wise. Wizard chess however, especially the giant version in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone. This influenced the backstory because of the genre, which is leaning towards medieval. As well as the wizard who plays a part in Freya gaining her powers.

Though the main inspiration for Freya's design was chess in general. Her character design was based off of a pawn, which I decided to use based on her backstory. It's symbolic as she was conscripted for the Royal Guard, She's being used as a pawn, as something that's expendable for war.

Her character was based on Elsa, from Frozen. The inspiration came from the fact that Elsa, at a young age had more power than she could control. I wanted to reflect this with my own character design. She’s very powerful, however My character got taught to control hers at a young age and grew up with order.

Freya Darville is a fourteen year old human girl. She is tall for her age, standing at 5ft 2in. She lived on a farm on the outskirts of a town called maisonette, helping her mother run the farm day to day. When she was eight years old however, her elder brother was conscripted into the army. Their father had been killed during service for the Royal Guard, and the king wanted his son to have the honour of taking his place. However Ronan, Freya's brother was petrified, and fled the farm. No one ever heard from him and he was assumed dead.

As punishment to the family for letting Ronan flee service, the Royal Guard took Freya instead, originally to use as a slave, but she showed she had fight in her, and they used her to take her father’s place instead. They hacked her hair short and forced her to answer to Ronan so suspicion wouldn't be aroused around the kingdom. ‘Freya’ was pronounced dead two days later.

She was trained by a malicious man, who was too harsh when sparring with students, often injuring them. After Freya had been there a year, at just 9 years old, she was left blind in one eye after he teacher was particularly brutal while spear training. Freya started covering up her face in fear the Royal Guard would notice her disability and exile her. She had no home to go back to anymore. Being exiled meant shame, and if that was to happen she knew her mother wouldn't allow her home. She'd had too much shame from her family already to tolerate anymore.

She has mastered a wide range of weaponry, including; a bow and arrow, her sword and shield, spear, but she favours a small hunting dagger. When she was eleven, she was sent on a hunt to find and kill a wizard who was plotting to assissnate the king. She managed to do so, but as he died, a connection between them was formed (she didn't know it at the time but the wizard was Ronan and Freya hadn't properly killed him) she accidentally absorbed some of his powers, including telekinetic abilities as well as becoming able to sense brain waves, giving her blind right eye a form of sight again, as well as gaining the ability to hear thoughts.

The target audience for my character is teenagers and younger kids. My design is aimed towards them through the design. Because she’s a sweet character who in all other respects seems relatively harmless, can outpower most people she faces. This would appeal to younger kids as an inspiration because it would show them that they can do anything. Freya’s personality would appeal to teenagers because there’s darker undertones in the story and messages that they might understand and relate to.

I have prevented using plagiarizing in my work by using photographs as my inspiration. By not using anyone else's character as a reference it makes it a lot harder to copy anyone's work, even by accident.

I’ve challenged gender inequality by making my character a young girl who is in charge of an army compiled of all men. She is disguised as her brother and so that has challenged certain stereotypes about the LGBT community (people may see Freya as transgender.)
