Message from Mewong Ministry of Home Affairs

The Republic of Mewong has been struck by an earthquake registering 7.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter is at the border of 2 provinces: Southern region and South West region. Northern region and North East region have also been affected.

Our initial estimate of the affected population in need of assistance is in the order of 1 million persons, however we are still assessing the situation and will update you on the situation as soon as we receive further and more concrete information.

The latest census info for each province and affected population is detailed below.

Southern region 5,920,760 350,000North East region 2,460,120 50,000Northern region 3,327,230 150,000

Eastern region 5,400,950 - Total 23,800,000 1,000,000

Summary of Impact per RegionEastern region: Not affected by the earthquake. Meo port and airport are fully

operational to receive aid supplies.South west region: Assessments indicate the eastern areas were severely affected.Southern region: Severe damage observed in the mountainous interior of the province. Northern region: The south-western part severely damaged, rest of province quite OK.North East region: Severely damaged in the south-east areas. Thakhom airport fully

operational

According to news from different provinces, the most affected area is around Negeri in the Southern region province and Nakhon, South west region province. Negeri area is the least developed province of the country, already an area with logistical problems. Road infrastructure is poor, not well maintained.

Access Updates:Airports: Negeri airport is reportedly severely damaged; the control tower and runway

are not operational.Ahynta Airport is partially damaged – under further investigation.

Roads: Impossible to cross the mountains by road around Negeri. It seems that there is a problem between Nakhon and Negeri; road not passable. The road Tonle – Thakhom only has minor damage. It seems that it could be repaired in short time. Government is looking at it. See attached map indicating road blocks known so far. All these blocks looks very large and we should not expect any clearing soon.MOHA wishes to remind you that regulations only permit the usage of 40MT trucks on the main highway from Meo to Nakhon via Tonle.
