How do plants help us?

- Plants give us flowers and fruits and vegetables like you were learning about last week.

- Plants also help the earth

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1Ymc311XS8

Let us remind our little learner about leaves. Leaves are an important part of the plant. Leaves use the carbon dioxide in the air to help the plant live and grow. Leaves then give us oxygen to breath so that we can live and grow. Leaves do this all through pores which are very tiny holes.

Let’s have our little learners use buttons or cereal such as cheerios to create the pores on a leaf.

-Cut out or have your little learner cut out a leaf shape.

-Glue buttons or cheerios to leaf practicing their pincer grasp using thumb and pointer finger together.

MATH- Review # 7 this week

Watch this video practicing counting 7 potatoes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efMHLkyb7ho

Create a number 7 on a piece of paper. Work with your little learner to count and paste 7 pictures on it.

LITERACY- Please if you do not already have an account create one. It is free with a limitation on the number of games that can be played in a month and I will be recommending games like this one to play with your little learner at home.

https://www.education.com/game/alphabet-mud-puddles/

LIBRARY/ MEDIA- Please if you do not already have an account create one. It is free and it is a great source of books. It is where we are pulling our read-alouds from: https://www.getepic.com/app/read/12258

HANDWRITING- copy and paste image into a blank document to make it bigger and print or have your little learner draw circular scribbles for the tops of the flowers and work on drawing a straight line down for the stem of the flower.

Edible Art: Select some of your little learners favorite vegetables, fruits, and possibly crackers or pretzel type snacks to build a tree with your little learner.

Sensory:

Lets feel the dry dirt. Then lets add water to dry dirt. Now the dirt is wet. Mix dirt and water. Put beans and if you have them fruit seeds such as avocadoes, peaches and plums into the dirt and encourage your little learner to try and find them.

Unit: Plants

Focus- How people can help plants and the earth by “Going Green”?

-Work to “Go Green”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbSDlaZu9pE

-What does it mean to “Go Green”?

It means people do things like reducing the number of things they use that cause pollution, reusing things like water bottles or clothes more than once, and recycling things like cans to create new things. It also means planting plants and trees to help the environment.

Watch this video with your little learner that focuses on Reducing by using less of things that cause pollution:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fephtrPt6wk

Practice being Earth Protectors. Check the house with your little learner in search of ways to reduce things you use in your home such as electricity. Ask your little learner do we need the light on if the sun is out? – have them turn off the light. Practice washing your hands with your little learner. – what should we do with the water once we are done? – have them turn the water off.

MATH- Work with your little learner to understand positional directions. Work on “In”/ “Out”/ and “Beside” or “Next to”. Work on having your little learner follow one step directions to put a toy “in a bin”, “take the out of the bin”, “put the toy beside the bin”

LITERACY- Watch letter / I i/ video review letter and sound.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P56hZEhqFCw

create your own I tree or print a copy of this page and have your little learner color over all the letter I

HANDWRITING/FINEMOTOR-

Using playdough to strengthen your little learners’ fingers. Let us create the earth and some trees from playdough. If no playdough is available here is a quick recipe you can include your little learner in making it with you:

*If you create your own playdough you should save it in a plastic bag for repeated use.

LIBRARY/ MEDIA- Read a book for 5-10 mins with your little learner 2 to 4 times a day for a total of 20 mins. While reading try to have your little learner looking at the book with you. Pause and point to pictures with them. Ask them to point to objects in the pictures.

Dramatic Play:

Let’s pretend to plant a tree and go through the check list of what a tree needs to grow:

- water pretend to get a hose and water the dirt.

-sun light- plant it by the window

-air- open the window

-soil- pretend to dig a hole and plant the seed then cover the seed

-space to grow.

Art: Use a empty soda bottle or plastic water bottle to help your little learner create their own watering “can”.

-Poke small holes in the top of the plastic bottle around the neck of the bottle.

-Help your little learner decorate their watering “can”.

A day to help remind us of the importance of taking care of our earth and remind ourselves of the different ways we can do that.

Unit: Plants

Focus- Earth Day. Keeping the earth and its plants healthy by reusing materials.

Watch this video of a song on the 3Rs to remind your little learner what we have been learning.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V3ap8QrLJg

Review with your little learner the 3 Rs for helping our earth?

-Reduce: use less show them by having your little learner turn off the light

-Reuse: use it again

-Recycle: make it into something new

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJr2z8g1dOI

Get together different recyclable materials in your house such as: botles, bottle caps, egg crates, empy container lids, etc. and work with your little learner to create flowers out of reusable materials. Help your little learner by cutting plastic or card poad into shapes they could use as stems or leaves. As you work with your little learner to create the flowers remind them of the different part of a flower: stem, leaves, flower.

flowers made using bottle tops

Flowers made using egg crates and straws

MATH- Continue to work with your little learner to understand positional directions. Work on “In”/ “Out”/ and “Beside” or “next to”. Work on having your little learner follow one step directions to put a toy “in a bin”, “take the out of the bin”, “put the toy beside the bin”

LITERACY- Watch letter / I i/ video review letter and sound.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkNfXeI_4hg

Draw a letter I on a paper have your child try to trace the letter I.

We have been learning about the 3 Rs. The R you and your little learner will be focused on tomorrow will be Recycling. If you did not create 3 recycling boxes/bins with your little learner that can be used on Thursday:

1-Paints/color Blue for Paper

2-Paints/color Yellow for Plastic

3-Paints/color Red for Cans

Sensory/Math:

Lets feel the dry dirt. Then this time lets have your little learner add water to dry dirt using their watering “can” that they made. Now the dirt is wet. Mix dirt and water. Work on “In”/ “Out”/ and “Beside” or “next to” while having your little learner put recycled materials in and out of the dirt. To also practice picking up litter.
