DID YOU KNOW?The world's rainforests are currently disappearing at a rate of 6000 acres every hour (this is about 4000 football fields per hour)!

Using Kiddle.com research how these ancient forests are essential to our planet.

Using a similar design to the artist Henri Rousseau create a ‘save the jungle’ or ‘save the rainforest’ poster. Don’t forget to include facts about why our rainforests are important to our eco-system.

Music/Dance: This week, I would like you to try something a little different. Using the link below, find the song ‘True Colours’ from Trolls. This uses sign language, try and learn a verse or chorus (or both), you can use the video to help you!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r25auE4eC2o

Outdoor fun:Andy Goldsworthy is a well-known artist who uses natural materials to create sculptures outside. Here are some examples:

Term 5 Week 4

ArtistsDear Families,

After listening to your feedback we hope we have devised a plan that will make your new roles as parent teachers easier. As a team we will plan several activities around a theme that you should be able to do as a family. This should make those of you with several children at home have an easier time, rather than attempting to follow multiple themes you will be able to have shared lessons. A typical home-school day may look like this:

Before 9:00am Wake up Eat breakfast, make your bed, get dressed and ready for the day.9:00-10:00 Morning walk/Exercise Family walk with the dog, exercise or games in the garden or house (depending on weather). This

would be a good time to try out some of the PE activities or Joe Wicks workout10:00-11:30 School Work

Keep sessions to less than half an hour (20 minutes for KS1 children). Have a short brain break between activities.

20-30 minutes maths activities.20-30 minutes Writing activity20-30 minutes reading activity

11:30-12:00 Quiet time Reading time, puzzles, relax12:00 Lunch Don’t forget to help prepare it!12:30 - 2 Chore time/creative time Time to help around the house or garden, games, Lego, drawing, crafty activities, diary writing

2:00-3:00 School Work Choose one subject from the topic plan – work together as a family to complete the activity. You don’t have to record your work but you may like to, this can be in your home-school book or you may like to take photographs or film it.

3:00-5:00 Afternoon fresh air Walking, cycling, playing outdoors5:00-6:00 Dinner Again – I am sure you can help!6:00-8:00 Free time Time for a shower or bath, watch TV, family games8:00 Bedtime Sleep!

The website will have lots of supportive materials as well as the weekly ‘7 in 7’ challenges. We will offer online links to websites but continue to avoid purely online based work as we are aware that many households are struggling to have enough IT to cater for everyone.

As I said before the school closure, the children are in unknown territory, as are you. Remember that it doesn’t matter if you can’t do it all. We are the trained teachers and we will help your children when our school re-opens. What we need you to do is interact and do things together.

The teachers will send maths, English, Reading and Phonics work specifically for the year group via email to you at the start of each week. We will try to make this less worksheet based.

PE Activities

This week we are going to continue making our bodies and mind feel good. Just like last week, to do this we need to get the blood pumping around our bodies. Today we are going to have a go at another five simple exercises in 40 second bursts with a 20-25 second break between exercises. It is important that you remember to take deep breaths while you are completing the exercises and have a quick drink between exercises.

Remember if the motivational music worked for you last week remember to press the play button again this week.

Stretch as tall as a tree

Last week we introduced stretching our bodies and we are going to do the same this week. So before we start with our exercises today, it is important that we stretch all of our muscles ready for our work out. This is so we do not injure or pull any muscles when we are completing the activities. Begin by stretching your arms trying to touch the ceiling then onto your tip toes to stretch your calf and leg muscles also. Come back down onto flat feet again and lean your body to one side then the other stretching the sides of your body like a palm tree in the wind.

Star jumps

Right make sure you have room for this exercise! Stretch your arms out either side of you and twist round to check that you do not touch anything, that’s when you know it will be safe. 40 seconds of star jumps making sure you are getting your hands above you head getting lots of air into your lungs as you complete. You can start off slow and get quicker as you go or stay at the same pace, I’ll leave that up to you. When completing your star jumps imagine you are a flower about to bloom in the beautiful sun shine.

20-25 second rest!

Running and punching

Page 5: €¦  · Web viewRisk of burns when pouring boiling water out of kettle / when stirring cabbage in boiling water. Parent / guardian to supervise use of kettle / stirring of cabbage

For this exercise you need to run on the spot while punching the air in front of you. Make sure you have plenty of room in front of you as we do not want your hands hitting anything. You need to have high knees and big long arm movements at the same time, just like a boxer when completing this. Do not punch down or up just straight in front of you in line with your chest. This exercise will get your heart and blood pumping.

20-25 second rest!

Squat

You may remember this exercise from last week, however this week we are going to squat but after each one completed we are going to turn 90 degrees and complete a whole circle to make this exercise a bit different from last week. This exercise is great for building up your leg muscles. Start in an upright position and bend your knees (imaging you are sitting in a chair) and then power back up to your up right position again keeping a nice straight back. Down then UP! 40 seconds remember, get those legs moving, controlled movements here is key to make those legs nice and strong.

20-25 second rest

Marching high knees

The next exercise is called marching high knees. To complete this exercise correctly, you first need to stand up straight and bring one knee up at a time making contact with your opposite elbow. Therefore, when you bring your left knee up it must make contact with your right elbow and when you bring your right knee up it must make contact with your left elbow. You should now feel your heart pumping but more importantly feel energized and wide awake after completing these exercises.

Touch the sky

To start with you need to have your feet nice and wide in line with your shoulders. Bring your hands together to touch the ground in the middle of your feet then reach for the sky. I suggest you start off slow then progressively get quicker. Down, up, down, up, until your 40 seconds is up. Bend those knees and reach for the ceiling or sky. Count down when you get to the last 10 seconds and when that timer goes off, stretch those arms off and shake your legs because that is the end of your workout today.

Remember your challenge is to have a go at all the exercises. Enjoy, have fun and repeat!

ScienceWatch the video and try this worksheet:The pH ScaleThe pH Scale is used by scientists to describe how acidic or alkaline a substance is. It ranges from 1 to 14 as seen below, where pH1 is a strong acid, pH7 is neutral and pH14 is a strong alkali.

Scientists often use an indicator to test substances, because the colour that the indicator turns, will tell you its pH. You can make your own indicator at home using red cabbage!

Instructions and the pH of each colour can be found at: https://www.compoundchem.com/2017/05/18/red-cabbage/ Results table:
