Resolution Short List Selection Process How is the Short List produced? WIs submit many resolutions each year to NFWI and in early October representatives from each federation meet to consider these and then vote for those they believe should be shortlisted. Once the shortlist is decided NFWI sends the list to a solicitor who will check that all the proposed resolutions meet the WI’s charitable objectives as stated in the constitution and for anything that might be legally contentious. The solicitor will not check the grammar or the strict wording of the resolution itself, just whether or not it meets those objectives. How are the resolutions that are debated at the Annual Meeting chosen? Once the shortlist is published every member has the opportunity to select the one resolution she would like to see taken forward to the Annual Meeting. The shortlisted resolutions and brief notes about them are published in the November/December edition of WI Life which should reach members around mid- November. More detailed notes, videos and PowerPoint presentations are published on the NFWI Website/My WI at the beginning of November to assist members in selecting the one they support the most. WIs can hold discussions at their meetings to learn more about each resolution. If this is not possible members can research the issues themselves before making their selection and informing their own WI secretary. It is important to consider the actual wording and whether it is appropriate, achievable and something which members could support. WI secretaries should collect their members’ selections and complete the form issued by WSFWI with the number of members who support each resolution remembering that every member may select only one. Please remember to include the number of members in the WI not just the 29/06/2022

Resolution Short List Selection Process

How is the Short List produced?

Please remember to include the number of members in the WI not just the number who actually submitted their choices. Send to address shown by post or email.

The deadline for WIs to return their selection forms is 14th February 2020.

The federation tallies the results from all the WIs in West Sussex and sends the totals for each resolution to NFWI by 21st February.

Once these have been received the NFWI Board of Trustees looks at the results and confirms which will be put to the Annual Meeting. In past years when one resolution is a clear favourite

among members it is put forward alone but when two or more are closely tied then multiple resolutions can be chosen.

Please encourage members to take part in this selection process and remember that at this stage they are only choosing the resolution they most support. Voting on the final resolution(s) takes place at the May meeting.
