Webster’s Kindergarten News April 2017 Reading: This quarter we are aiming for reading at an instructional level D and 85-100 sight words. We will be reading word families from all vowels. We will be identifying beginning, middle, and ending sounds of words as well as making new words by changing one sound at a time. Math: This month we will continue to practice solving addition and subtraction problems, including word problems and building fluency within 5. We will also review 2D and 3D shapes, comparing and contrasting them. We will also focus on classifying data: sorting, counting, and graphing. Science: We are focusing on life science this month. We will be learning about animals and plants. Social Studies: This month we will continue our study on geography. We will be reviewing maps, globes, and landforms. We will also be continuing to learn our phone number and address. Calendar 4/28- Tree Hill Nature Center- animal encounter visit (at school). Don’t forget to turn in the permission form! 5/1-5/5- Teacher Appreciation Week AVID We are reviewing how to sit with S.W.A.G. and use our O.T. We are beginning to identify and use WICOR. Reminders: Please sign your child’s planner every night and check for homework! Students will not earn their daily PAW credit if homework is not completed and planners are not signed. Writing: We will be learning how to do explanatory writing this month! Examples of this are how to brush your

teeth, how to make s’mores, etc. We will be making sure to include spaces in our writing!
