INTERPRETING & TRANSLATION DEPARTMENTINTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
INTERNSHIP TITLE: Interpreting & Translation (I&T) Intern
HOURS PER WEEK: 8-10 (Needs to be a minimum of 4 hour blocks of time over a period of one full day or 2 half days during the week)
DURATION: Intern needs to be available for minimum of 4 months, as program requirements require a full semester to complete academic credit. Internship will begin NO EARLIER than 10 a.m.
DESCRIPTION:I&T Interns assist our Interpreting & Translation team with meeting the language service needs of our clients and external agency partners; including schools, hospitals and courts. This internship is almost entirely administrative – there is little interaction with our clients.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work independently and with a small team Able to parse complex, sequential tasks Must be able to function in a highly structured, organized environment Must demonstrate quality communication skills such as speaking on the phone and
writing Basic familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Office, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
Work will be overseen by the Interpreting & Translation team.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with basic clerical duties around the office (filing, copying, faxing) Update the database to reflect completed interpreting/translating jobs, including hours of
service and location of service provided. Communicate with interpreters/translators via email and text to schedule/confirm
appointments for clients Assist in preparing and mailing out of invoices Junior & Senior interns are expected to develop a project related to the department based
on the student’s interests. This will be discussed with the Volunteer Coordinator during initial interview
