Cecilia WallsENG 224 Job Aid Presentation Using Prezi

To begin the Job Aid, you will want to have the browser of your choice open to the webpage Prezi.com. It will be best if you have your presentation material on hand to fill in the blanks when prompted.

Step 1 Click the blue rectangle at the bottom of the screen that reads, ‘Get Started’.

Step 2 For this Job Aid, we will be opening a Free account so, click on the top rectangle that reads, ‘Continue with Public Presentations’.

Step 3 Enter the information Prezi asks for to set up a new account. Click on the blue triangle after filling in your information to ‘Create your Free public account’.

Step 4 Here is where the magic begins. To create a new presentation, click on the dotted outlined box in the middle of the page that reads ‘New Prezi’.

Step 5 This is where you choose your template or decide to configure your own Prezi working from a blank Prezi. Today, we will use a Prezi template.

Step 6 You can see at the top of this page there is the word ‘Latest’ highlighted in blue which shows the most popular templates being used on Prezi currently. You can also click on ‘more’ to delve deeper into what templates are available or search for a specific topic in the ‘search’ bar. For example, a search for ‘Nature’, will generate these templates:

Step 7 For the sake of ease, we will be using the ‘Breaking News’ template found on the first page of templates offered with the Latest templates. To select, simply click on the template-it will outline in blue- then click on ‘Use template’ in the bottom right corner of the page.

Step 8 This is where you should be with your blank ‘Breaking News’ Prezi to begin adding info: this would be a good time to save your work. Hit the floppy disc emblem in the toolbar to save. Prezi will also automatically save your work for you but, it is a good idea to hit the save button whenever you think of it and whenever you get up to take a break.

Step 9 First, add your title. Click on the yellow rectangle and it will zoom in so you can focus better on details. Type in, “How to Open, Begin and Save a presentation on Prezi” then click out of the box.

Step 10 Customize! Click on the megaphone to the right of the Title, it will outline allowing you to edit it. Click ‘Effects’ and scroll over to ‘Singe’. Apply and Save.

Step 11 To begin adding information, click on Frame #2 that runs along the left of the screen. This will zoom you in. There are two areas to add text. The top with larger font is for a Subtitle statement, the bottom with smaller font is for a Body statement. In the Subtitle area, type; Navigate to: Prezi.com. Choose a font color, make the font bold and large print. There is an arrow to the right of the Italicized button that will open, giving you more formatting choices. Today, we will work only with the three mentioned above. In the Body, type; “Click on “Continue with public presentations >”. Choose a font color for this direction also, make it bold and large print. We will keep these three directives constant for the remainder of the Prezi in every Subtitle and Body area.

Step 12 Click on Frame #3 to continue adding information. In Subtitle area, type; “Create your free Public account” and Body type; Create a new Prezi! When you click in the text box there is a black box that shows with a hand in the middle of a + and -. You can move your text box by clicking on the hand and moving the box where you want. You can in/decrease your font size by clicking the + or -. To edit any circle frame, simply click on it to the left of the screen and your Prezi will refocus to the frame chosen.

Step 13 Click on Frame #4. You will see Frame #5 is embedded in this frame. Don’t worry about this, we will get there. In the Subtitle text box type; “Choose your template” and in the Body text box type; “Breaking News!!”.

Step 14 Click on Frame #5 in your slide list to the left so your Prezi zooms in. In the Subtitle type, “This isn’t so bad, is it?!” We are going to delete the Body text box. Hover your cursor over the box, it will outline in blue. Right click, then select delete. Center the Subtitle text box in the frame.

Step 15 Click on Frame #6. We are going to add a picture in #6 instead of text. Hover over the text boxes in the frame, right click and delete them. In the toolbar, click on ‘Insert’. The first choice we have is ‘image’. Click on ‘Image’. Here, you may choose to add pictures from your own library or from images on the Web. Today, we will use a picture you or I own so we do not have to worry about copyright laws. I have included a picture of my son, Henry, for you to download, copy and paste if you choose or you can use one of your own pictures to add to the frame. If Prezi prompts you to resize your picture, do so.

Step 16 Almost done! All there is to do now is to customize as you wish! At the top of the tool

bar, the Customize tab allows you to change your Color Themes and Background. A presenter would choose from her own images to display as a new Background. We are going to keep the present Theme Prezi has a default for this template.

Step 17 Select Frame #1 and right click on it to bring the format menu down. Choose ‘Animate Frame Contents’ We are going to add a ‘Fade In’ effect to every slide for a little extra kick on the presentation. Make sure you apply the Fade In effect to the frame only by clicking on the black outline of the frame only. You will notice, there are options to apply effects to the arrows, your Subtitles and Body text boxes. Click ‘Done’ to apply changes when you are through.

Step 18 Click ‘Present’ in the upper right corner of the screen to preview your Prezi. You will need to press the Space bar to initiate the Fade In effect and Zoom in to each frame. This is Prezi!!
