3. Mandatory Externship Statement: Although securing a placement is the student’s responsibility, this statement will help the Program director assist you with placement selection. In an attached document (750 words maximum) please discuss what sort of externship you hope to secure. Please include as much detail as possible, such as:

Preferred Issue areas (e.g. criminal prosecution or defense, environmental law, health law, trade etc.)

Type of organization you are interested in (e.g. executive branch, congressional, non-profit)

Type of work (e.g. litigation, policy, transactional) Any relevant academic or life experience that will play a role in selection

(including any law school courses or activates which are relevant to the externship you are seeking)

Ideological bent (optional, i.e., for Hill placement, think tanks etc.)

Addendum to UCDC Law Program Application – Spring 2012

Application Procedures and Eligibility Requirements

1. Berkeley Law students must be in their fourth, fifth or sixth semesters of law school to participate in the Program.

2. Berkeley Law students must confirm with the Dean of Students that they are eligible to participate in the Program in terms of units, course requirements, and other academic planning issues.

3. Students must confirm that they have enough externship/non-classroom units available to participate. There is a 15 unit cap on non-classroom units and a 10-unit cap on field placement units. Please refer to Academic Rule 1.03(A)(2)(c) and (e).
