Science/Social StudiesStudy guides will come home for each unit.*Citizenship: Students will learn about what it means to be a good citizen within their community.*Animal Life Cycles: Students will study the life cycles of frogs and butterflies.

ELAWe will be using a variety of fiction and nonfiction stories to practice applying reading strategies and skills. Here is what we will focus on this month:*Summarizing: Tell what happens in the beginning, middle and end of a story in our own words.*Story Structure: Identify the characters, setting, problem and solution.*Making Connections: Think about how our background knowledge can help us relate to and understand a story.*Categorizing: Put items and ideas in a group to show how they are related.

Writing*Grammar: Students will practice identifying and writing complete sentences.*Writing: Students will review the elements of a friendly letter and practice writing friendly letters to book characters, classmates and members of our community.

Math*The students will be taking a beginning of the year assessment. This will allow me to place students in small groups for interventions and or enrichment.*Our first unit is Addition and Subtraction to 20. Students will review strategies including touchpoints, counting on, using a number line, doubles facts, and related facts. Students will also practice using the CUBES strategy to solve addition and subtraction word problems.

Please contact me if you need help accessing it.*Parent Night is on Wednesday, September 13 at 7 pm.*Students are encouraged to bring water bottles and a healthy snack to school.*Students may bring in personal earbuds or headphones for use with the classroom iPads.
