What’s Happening With Mrs. Chroscinski’s Crew? September Newsletter Science/Social Studies Study guides will come home for each unit. *Citizenship: Students will learn about what it means to be a good citizen within their community. *Animal Life Cycles: Students will study the life cycles of frogs and ELA We will be using a variety of fiction and nonfiction stories to practice applying reading strategies and skills. Here is what we will focus on this month: *Summarizing: Tell what happens in the beginning, middle and end of a story in our own words. *Story Structure: Identify the characters, setting, problem and solution. *Making Connections: Think about how our background knowledge can help us relate to and understand a story. All newsletters will be posted on the classroom website for viewing and download. If you need hard copies sent home, please contact me. Thank you! Writing *Grammar: Students will practice identifying and writing complete sentences. *Writing: Students will review the elements of a friendly letter and practice writing friendly letters to book characters, classmates and Math *The students will be taking a beginning of the year assessment. This will allow me to place students in small groups for interventions and or enrichment. *Our first unit is Addition and Subtraction to 20. Students will review strategies including touchpoints, counting on, using a number line, doubles facts, and related facts. Students will also practice using the CUBES strategy Reminders/Notes *Special schedules and general information is posted on the classroom website for your reference. Please contact me if you need help accessing it. *Parent Night is on Wednesday, September 13 at 7 pm. *Students are encouraged to bring water bottles and a healthy snack to school. *Students may bring in personal earbuds or headphones for use with the classroom iPads. Please have them in a bag labeled with your child’s name.
