Shark Sense Sierra Lake Elementary School’s Monthly Newsletter

2020-21 SCHOOL YEARFrom Our Principal, Dr. Raymond

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced an entirely new plan for reopening the state's economy amid the coronavirus pandemic that will replace the state's current system of regional variances and the state watch list. Under the new plan, each county will be given a designation of "purple," "red," "orange" or "yellow" that will determine what types of businesses and activities are allowed in each county.

Each county will be assigned its tier every Tuesday, and a county must remain in a tier for 21 consecutive days before moving to the next one. To move forward, a county must meet the next tier's criteria for 14 consecutive days. Here's a description for each tier:

TIER 1 - Purple: County risk level is "widespread"— More than seven daily new cases per 100,000 residents, or test positivity greater than 8%.— Most non-essential indoor businesses operations are closed— Indoor hair salons and barbershops can reopen effective immediately

TIER 2 - Red: County risk level is "substantial"— Four to seven daily new cases per 100,000 residents, or test positivity between 5% and 8%— Some non-essential indoor business operations (office spaces, card rooms) are closed— Gyms, movie theaters and indoor dining can reopen with modifications.— Schools can open two weeks after a county moves from purple to red

TIER 3 - Orange: County risk is "moderate"— One to four daily new cases per 100,000 residents, or test positivity between 2% and 5%— Some indoor business operations are open with modifications

TIER 4 - Yellow: County risk is "minimal"— Less than 1 new daily case per 100,000 residents, or test positivity less than 2%— Most indoor business operations are open with modifications.

Everyone wants to know, “When can we go back to school?”

Schools are eligible for reopening at least some in-person instruction following California School Sector Specific Guidelines once the county is out of Tier 1 – PURPLE (and thus in Tier 2 – RED ) for at least 14 days, which is similar to being off the County Data Monitoring List for at least 14 days.

The 3rd Annual Multicultural Night that was originally scheduled for Friday, October 9th from 5:00- 6:00 p.m., has been postponed for a later date in the year, yet to be determined.

Attendance:

Attendance is key to student academic success! Students must log onto TEAMs when their scheduled time is with the teacher. The teachers have been giving families their schedules for synchronous (live on TEAMs) and asynchronous (independent learning). If students are not able to log on to TEAMs, please let the teacher

know and call the Help Desk at (909) 357-7630 for technical assistance. Students who log on after the scheduled time, will be marked Late. Please have them log in on time. Please communicate with the teacher and work together for the benefit of your child.

If your child has a “A” under attendance in Q, please call the office so we can verify and clear this absence for you.

Brief Synopsis of the Video:

Position:  Kitchen Operator

How many years have you been in Fontana Unified School District?

27 years

How did you get into Education?

I started out in the district as a noon-aid & wanted to work in food services so I started as a sub & worked up to kitchen operator.

What’s   the most rewarding thing about being in your position?

I love watching the students grow up learning their favorite lunch items. During the Grab-N-Go service, I enjoy the students saying “Hi Mrs. Rose! Thank you “when they pull up in their cars to pick up food.

What is one thing you want us to know about you?

I take pride in my work & I care about the students, community & staff
