Homework Week 15-16 Due February 6th Grade 2 TLC Note: Students will be completing an at-home science project to go with our unit, Hot and Cold Temperatures. They will have TWO weeks to complete the project and write-up. Science Projects and homework will be due on February 6 th . Reading: The homework program includes 15 – 20 minutes of daily reading. Please include at least 2 – 3 sessions a week using Raz Kids which should include reading, listening and doing the quizzes. Spelling: There are 12 words to practice this week. All students please do the following: 1. Date the homework. 2. Moving forward, students are asked to practice their spelling words in a way that helps them learn. Below is a choice board of activities. Choose a new choice each day. Please make sure that one of those days is a written form that is done in the homework book. Please see the following spelling menu. 3. Yellow: Focus on the first 4 words. 4. Blue: Focus on the first 8 words. 5. Red: Do all 12 words. This week’s words focus on the “ING” ending. If the word ends in ‘e’, drop the ‘e’ and add “ING”. Also, watch for words that need the final letter to be doubled before adding “ING”.

Math: All three coloured levels of homework are asked to continue to use Mathletics (www.mathletics.com/signin) at home. We ask that this week the yellow group spend 12 minutes / 2 to 3 times a week on Mathletics, the blue group 15 minutes / 2 to 3 times a week, and red group 20 minutes / 2 to 3 times a week. The students are working on

mastering their basic facts in subtraction . Please complete the following page.

Science Project:Students have been learning about the role of insulation in keeping things hot and cold.   Please have your child create an insulating device that will keep an ice cube cold. We will provide an ice cube for each student.   Please use the attached rubric as a guideline when creating your device. 

Please hand in the following two pages with your completed project. You may hand it in early as you finish. We ask that all projects be handed in no later than Thursday, February 6th. We will be testing, sharing and reflecting on our insulators on Friday, February 7th only.
