Reading:● Continue to read daily with your

Writing● Write daily about activities students

are doing, using the following leads○ I went…○ I played...○ I saw...

● Write a story, using ideas and words that Eric Carle uses (what do you see, what do you hear, I can)

● Writing, making sure that the picture matches the students writing

● Publish a story, by making a front cover, having a title, editing work (capital letters, full stops, spaces)

● Quick Writes, writing as much as you can about an image/topic (eg image of a park) See resources

● Sound out words and record their initial sound on the paper

● Writing from left to right on the page, attempting to form and use lower case letters

Maths:● Practise verbally counting, to and beyond 20● Practise writing numbers, 1-10 and drawing

objects to match numeral● Focus on making numbers to 10, touching each

object only once (1:1 correspondence), eg counting pencils, counting plants in the garden, counting toys, counting straws

● Measure items in the house, use words such as longer, shorter, same. Use ‘hands span’, blocks, pencils to measure items, Make sure there are no gaps between items, items are end to end and items are the same type of item when measuring.

● Make patterns using beads or blocks● Practise the days of the week, what day is it

today, what day was it yesterday, what day is it tomorrow?

● Sing counting songs with students (five little monkeys, days of the week, months of the year)

Handwriting / Spelling:● Practice writing name, drawing the below prewriting shapes

● Smart Spelling Sentences of the week: The sun was up but it was not hot. I went to get a net. (See resources below)● Sing ‘ants in the apple’ with your student to practice letter sounds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XstsBiKDpKs) ● Practise naming the letters in the alphabet and producing the associated sound● Students have a go at writing and forming letters

Integrated:● Celebrate students writing with family members, student to read their story out aloud● Discuss features of a book with your student (spine, front cover, back cover, title, author, dedication page, blurb)● Using describing words in our stories by using our senses (hear, smell, taste, see, touch)
