https://my.cjfallon.ie/preview/index/1355/116

Read the chapter Keeping afloat. Make note of any new words that you come across and find the meaning in your dictionary e.g. doomed, evolution, durable

I know some of you enjoy reading books by David Walliams. Click on the link below and listen to some short stories written and read by David Walliams.

Writing:

Look at page 122 and 123 of your Matter of Fact. Answer the questions for More Blarney Blasts Question 1, Tale and Detail Q1-5, Work to Discover and Word Wizardry. Remember to write full sentences for each answer.

Give Word Wizardry your best effort. You do not need to come up with a rhyme for all 7 events. I look forward to reading your rhymes!

Comprehension:

Read this comprehension from Treasury E and answer the questions.

Grammar: Contractions

We often shorten words by running them together. An apostrophe (‘) is placed where a letter or letters have been left out. This is called a contraction.

Example: If he can’t go, you’ll telephone me at nine o’clock.

Some common contractions are:

He’s = he is

We’ve= we have

Don’t = do not

He’d = he would

What’s = what is

We’re = we are

He’ll = he will

Wasn’t = was not

She’s = she is

I’ve = I have

Isn’t = is not

It’s = it is

You’ve = you have

Can’t = cannot

You’re = you are

Rewrite the highlighted words using contractions.

1. He is a good swimmer.

2. It is a lovely day.

3. I am very lucky to have such friends.

4. I cannot go fishing today.

5. We have enjoyed our holiday.

6. You are all invited to my party on Saturday.

7. It does not matter if it is raining in the afternoon.

8. We are going to visit the new museum as it is not far from here.

9. He did not know the correct answer.

10. It is cold outside and it is raining.

Maths Challenge

Test 63 and 64

Continue to revise your tables regularly.

Maths Challenge for the whole family!

Remove two sticks and leave two squares.

All remaining matches should be part of the two squares.

Now try this one:

This arrangement represents a glass with a cherry in it.

Rearrange the sticks, by moving exactly 2 of them, so that the counter is outside the glass.

You will need to think outside the box (or glass) for this one!

SPHE:

This week we are going to remind ourselves about strangers and internet safety.

A stranger is anyone you don’t know, old or young, male or female.

You can’t tell by looking at someone whether they can be trusted or not.

You never go anywhere with a stranger and you never take anything from a stranger unless you have permission from the adult in charge.

You Say No, Get Away and Tell if a stranger does anything to make you feel unsafe.

Can you think of any other rules about strangers?

Many of us are spending more time online at the moment. It is very important that we follow these rules to ensure internet safety. Discuss these rules with your parents.

I hope you enjoyed trying out the new breathing techniques last week.

In our daily lives, our breathing frequently reflects our state of mind. Each thought and feeling expresses itself in the form of relaxation or tension, peace or worry, receptiveness or fear, and triggers a biochemical reaction in the body. In normal speech too, there are many expressions that relate to the relationship between the body, mind and breathing: you catch your breath, something takes your breath away, you wait with bated breath, you take a breather, you come up for air, etc. If you are relaxed, your breathing is regular, deep and calm. However, if you are experiencing turmoil, your breathing becomes shallow, rapid and irregular. We can use breathing techniques to bring about a calm mind.

Remember, your breath goes everywhere with you!

This week I am going to give you three new breathing strategies. These strategies will help you to relax and find a sense of calm and peace when faced with overwhelming emotions or challenging situations.
