Welcome and Introduction to PPGJP thanked all present for their attendance at today’s meeting and went on to explain that PPG’s have been a part of the GP contract since 2015. They were created with the aim of looking at the issues that affect the practice and to support the practice in shaping its future. JP is currently a member of the patient council for Birmingham and Solihull CCG. The PPG chairs from practices across the CCG also have meetings and JP will feedback anything relevant to the group. As a starting point JP will arrange for the chair of the patient forum to come to one of our meetings at the practice to share ideas on what other groups do.

JP went on to explain that the aim of today is for everyone to see what the PPG is about and decide if it is something they are interested in continuing being a part of. The group were asked to remember that everyone’s opinion is important and if you object to anything being said then let someone know – silence will be taken as agreement.

The group were then asked to look over the terms of reference ( see attached document) which we will aim to sign off and agree at the next meeting.

Social Prescribing SchemeAMP advised the group that the practice is now able to offer our patients access to the local social prescribing service. This service is designed for those patients who problems cannot simply be

CQC report updateJP wanted to make all aware that the practice had been rating as OUTSTANDING in 4 of the 5 areas the CQC inspect. This makes Kingsbury Road Surgery the highest rated practice in Birmingham at the moment.

JP went through some of the things that impressed the inspectors such as our appointment lengths, the triage system and caring nature of the staff that is reflected in the comments received from patients.

LS echoed this sentiment stating she thinks the surgery is really brilliant and she doesn’t know another practice like it.

HP was always very happy with the service he receives especially the Practice Nurse.

All present were in agreement that the surgery goes above and beyond and that they would like that to continue.

Next stepsIt was agreed by all to hold the next meeting in September after the summer holiday period. At the request of the group the next meeting will be arranged in the evening to accommodate those that work.

The group agreed that initially it would meet once a quarter. At the next meeting the group will discuss how the practice should manage patients who repeatedly do not attend appointments.

Meeting closePSJ thanked all present for taking the time to attend the meeting. He updated all present that the practice was facing a man power issue at the moment with a shortage of trainees which will pose a challenge during winter. The practice has a plan and patients should continue to receive the same service they always have as long as they use the service wisely. Following on from the CQC inspection PSJ aims to keep going at the practice for at least the next 5 years.
