Media Homework Project

Dear Parent/Carer,

The Media Department are issuing homework projects in order to encourage and improve the independent learning skills of the students. This will involve each student being given a different project to complete which will be closely linked to the work they undertake in their Media classes.

Your child’s teacher will set a deadline or multiple deadlines by which the project MUST be handed back in. Each completed project will receive written feedback and targets on how the student can improve their work. Any additional support that might be needed will always be given to all students, we welcome and encourage students to approach any member of the Media Department to arrange appropriate times and days to access direct teacher support, group support and/or access to IT facilities.

The idea of the project is to allow the students to manage their own time and learning effectively. They can, of course, consult with their Media teacher at any time with what they are doing, and bring in their work to ask for guidance with it. However, we would ask that the students complete the project as much as possible by themselves. We feel that learning to complete the project unaided is almost as fundamental as what they may be studying.

Important notes for students

All homework to be completed in BLUE or BLACK PEN and any drawings in pencil. Any extra sheets of paper used for a homework task should be A4 sheets of paper, either

plain or lined. All homework should be written in full sentences - unless the task tells you to use bullet

points. This homework book should be kept in GOOD CONDITION. This means, it should not be

ripped or damaged. The booklet is NOT to have any GRAFFITI within it.

The Media Department believe that independent learning skills are fundamental to ensuring that students make progress in Media.

Media Homework ProjectStoryboards

This half-term, you will be completing your homework project on storyboarding. You will be working on discovering how films are created, choices by examining the contents of a real screenplay and creating a series of pre-production storyboard to accompany them.

In order to show that you can use and evaluate the skills you have learnt in class, you must ensure that you complete ALL the work by the deadline set by your teacher and have your parents/ carers sign the sheet confirming that you are working regularly on the project.

Deadline date:

Instructions:

Read the screenplay. The screenplay includes dialogue the actors must say, the action occurring in the scene and indications of camerawork and movement. The screenplays are genre specific therefore think about the codes/ conventions of the genre you are working with and how that will affect the overall look of your designs.

You are then to create 20 board storyboards where you bring the screenplay to life. Make decisions about the camera positioning, distances, angles and movement. Focus on the 5 elements of Mise-en-scene:

Position in the frame Facial expression/body language Hair/make-up/costume Colour/lighting Props/setting

Ensure all details on the storyboard are filled in with detail and presents your vision.Try you best when drawing/designing your storyboards, if you are not the best drawer ensure what you draw makes sense.

You will find an example of a storyboard, use this to model your ideas and storyboard.

Science FictionEXT. TRAIN STATION -- NIGHT

A shot of the clock on the Station's stately southern exposure. WE PAN DOWN TO...

A pair of feet running. They belong to a man we will know as thePERPETRATOR. As we track with him, he SPEEDS UP and OUT OF FRAME.

A new set of feet come into frame. These belong to JAMES EDWARDS, a NYC COP in undercover street clothes. In the BACKGROUND, about ten feet behind, are two other cops, trying to keep up.

Edwards is a lot faster, though. He pulls out his badge that hangs from a chain under his shirt.

EDWARDSStop! NYPD!

He continues running, out of frame, TRACK WITH EDWARDS AND THE PERP

As they run down a bridge, the Perp veers to the left and, seemingly oblivious to the fact that it's a thirty-foot drop, he hurdles the guard rail, and drops to Forty-first Street below.

EDWARDS is surprised by this maneuver, but doesn't waste a second. He,too, hurdles the guard rail and lands on...

EXT. STREET - NIGHT

A DOUBLE-DECKER BUS, one of those open-top sightseers bus full of tourists. EDWARDS pushes through the crowd...

EDWARDSGrand Central Station off to your left,folks...

With the bus still moving, he scrambles down the circular stairs and runs out through the side door.

He spots the Perp, sailing east on Forty-first Street.

EDWARDSDammit, man, you're making me sweat up my gear!

Edwards spots one of those New York Post delivery trucks, the kind with the open back door, rumbling by. He runs and jumps into the back.

EXT. FIFTH AVENUE -- NIGHT

Page 6: cveafilmstudies.weebly.comcveafilmstudies.weebly.com/.../7/20773202/storyboard… · Web viewHair/make-up/costume Colour/lighting Props/setting Ensure all details on the storyboard

THE PERP, meanwhile, is running at top speed, when Edwards leaps from the back of the moving truck and tackles the Perp. The Perp, now straddled by Edwards, is terrified.

PERPHe's coming! He's coming!

EDWARDSAnd when he gets here, I'll kick beat himtoo.

Edwards is about to slap the cuffs on him, when the Perp blinks. Nothing unusual about that, but then another set of translucent, milky white eyelids, underneath his regular eyelids, blinks also.

Edwards is thrown for a moment, which is all the time the Perp needs to pull out...

His WEAPON, which is the strangest looking gun you've ever seen. Reacting quickly, Edwards bats it out of the Perp's hand.

THE WEAPON smashes into the stone wall surrounding Central Park andSHATTERS into a million pieces.

EDWARDSWhat the...

WHOMP! The Perp kicks him in the groin, then scrambles to his feet and takes off again. Edwards staggers after him, in pain.

The Perp leaps over a moving car, down the street. Edwards tries to follow, but a bus pulls in front of him. After it passes, thePerp is gone.

Then the Perp flies past him, having leapt from twenty feet down to the top of the a building. He scrambles up and over the ledge.

EXT. BUILDING -- ROOF -- NIGHT

On the roof, the PERP reaches the top, climbs over the edge, and CRUNCHES to the gravel surface. He leaps to his feet and races over to a door. It's locked.

He tugs on another. It's locked too. He pulls on a third. It swings open --

-- revealing EDWARDS on the other side, breathing hard. He aims his weaponat the Perp.

EDWARDSWassup?

The Perp SCREAMS inhumanly and panics. He backpedals, toward the edge of the roof.
