The tree of life

Learning goals: The objective of this unit is to learn about Gustave Klimt and the history of art nouveau. You will experiment with line and patterns to create a design that is like the work of Klimt.

Criter ia of Success :

- You will become familiar with l’art Nouveau and the art of Gustave Klimt

- You will use the creative process in your work- You will apply the elements of design, specifically the

elements of line and shape.- You will self reflect on your work and the work of others.

Step one:

Watch the videos of Gustave Klimt and complete the questions provided by your teacher. Review and discuss what you have learned.

Step two:

Look at the tree of life. What do you notice? How are the lines and pattern use? What stands out the most? Now in your sketch book create your own version of the tree of life. Be sure you use the space appropriately.

Step three:

When your design is approved by your teacher begin making a good copy of your tree with the material provided. Use gold paint to paint the tree and add details and colours as you go along. Outline your tree with Sharpie or black paint if you need to.

Step four:

Fill out the creative process sheet and hand in all you work to the teacher.
