As a Feinstein Leadership School we are committed to teaching our students to be caring of others.

We are proud of our entire community when it comes to charitable deeds! There are so many good things that are done by others outside of our school and it touches each of our hearts.

A childhood friend of our preschool teacher was kind enough to reach out to her via Facebook and asked if there were a couple of families in the school that he and his wife could give a little financial help to. The office staff knew of 2 families struggling, the generous couple gave money to someone’s tuition and also gave the same family a Target gift card to be able to purchase Christmas gifts for their children. The other family was given 2 Target gift cards one to help with household expenses and the other for the parents to be able to buy Christmas gifts for their children as well. What an amazing gesture! This friend said he and his wife like to give back every year because both of their birthdays are before Christmas and instead of buying each other birthday gifts they would much rather give the money they would spend to families in need. n

“Helping to better the lives of others is the greatest of all achievements”-Mr. Alan Shawn Feinstein’s

Naturally our school community felt for the people who were devastated by Hurricanes. Many of them also have family living in the areas that were hit. The student council asked Mr. Hebert if the school could have a dress down day to help the those who have lost so much in Hurricane Maria & Jose Between the two dress down days we raised close to $400.00.

Thanksgiving Traditions

For many years our school has had a canned food drive to support the St. Michael’s

food pantry. This year 1811 canned foods were collected by our Feinstein Jr. Scholars and the school council.

Our 8th grade Jr. Scholars continued a tradition of going to St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Charles Church in Providence to pack food baskets. This year they packed 450 baskets for families in need.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you

As we do what we can to do good for others we also have people looking out for our school community. Fifty Three: Five is a charitable organization who donated 100 turkeys and thanksgiving fixings for our neediest of families. Our 8th graders helped carry them all into the school. What a beautiful sight seeing the parents carry their generous gift out of the school doors with a big smile knowing they are truly thankful.

In addition the Fifty Three: Five donated over 200 school supplies in nice drawstring bags. The kids were thankful and surprised for the kind gift.

Our 6th annual Bishop McVinney Golf Tournament was a success. The event raises money to benefit urban catholic education. I was held at the Exeter Country Club. 3 Bishop McVinney Jr. Scholars and families were guests of golfers at a luncheon prior to the event, our school choir was also in attendance and sang “God Bless America”. This year more than $10,000.00 was raised.

Making other feel good through small gestures

The 4th grade Students continue to make cards for members of nursing home and veterans. It’s the small thinks that make people smile with warmth.

Sr. Teresina is missed at the school and prayed for everyday. The children also like to make pictures for her

All classes made cards and projects as a thank you to send to Gregg’s Restaurant to thank them for our amazing and generous

4th grade students took the preschool class outside to build snowmen. The children and teachers had a blast! Smiles were on everyone’s faces. The 4thgrade students stepped it up to be good role models to our youngest Jr. Scholars

Each and every year we want to send a big to the Feinstein Foundation, which allows our Feinstein Jr. Scholars to enjoy field trips and special programs.

One Of God’s Many Blessings

One of our day care workers had complications with her pregnancy and childbirth our school community has been a source of support to her and her baby. We raised a little extra money to help her through her difficult times. She has also, been blessed with amazing nurses to help with her beautiful baby boy Noah. The Ronald McDonald house has also been a blessing to her, they have provided a comfortable place for her to stay and be close to her baby while he fights to get stronger in the NICU. May God bless them both. Noah and his mother are moth doing better and getting stronger each day.

BISHOP MCVINNEY SCHOOL IN SOUTH PROVIDENCE TO RECEIVE HOLIDAY GIFTS COURTESY OF GREGG'S RESTAURANTS AND CHANNEL 10

Students at Bishop McVinney School in South Providence will receive holiday gifts courtesy of the Giving Tree Project, a charitable program instituted and managed by Gregg's Restaurants and supported by WJAR Channel 10.

On Monday, 18 December at approximately 9am, Santa Claus will arrive at the school on a fire truck, transporting and distributing gifts to 200 students in preschool through grade 8.

The school community looks forward to this annual event with great anticipation. In the heart of South Providence, a visit from Santa Claus is cause for celebration.

“We are grateful for the generous contribution of Gregg's and Channel 10. Our kids are so excited when they see Santa drive up to the front door. Many of our families struggle to make ends meet especially during the holidays. The Christmas gifts bring joy to everyone. They are really appreciated,” says Louis Hebert, Bishop McVinney School Principal.

Gregg’s Giving Tree Project has become a tradition in Rhode Island. The volunteers and the recipients of gifts look forward to the program year after year. Without the Giving Tree Project so many friends in need would have less to look forward to during the holiday season. Gregg’s is proud to facilitate the Giving Tree program, and grateful for the participation of so many Rhode Islanders.

Traditionally, gifts are brought to one of the restaurants. Gregg’s prefers gifts without holiday wrapping as it helps them in the sorting phase of the project. Monetary donations of any size are also very welcome, and 100% of each donation is used to meet the needs of the less fortunate in our community. A donation is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law as Gregg's Giving Tree Inc. is a registered 501c(3) charitable organization.
