Preparing your blog

It is important that your blog is well organized and follows a specific structure in order for us to mark your work. You need to bear in mind that external moderators mark hundreds of blogs a year and should your blog be well organized, immediately you give them a good impression.

1. Categorize your posts

This part is very important. There are 3 distinct categories that you need to be posting under and this will allow the marker to easily identify where the work is. The categories are as follows:

College MagazineThis speaks for itself, put your college magazine cover and contents under this category.

Research and planning All of your research, drafts, mindmaps and notes about your target audience need to be categorized under this heading.

Production All production posts which demonstrate how you used InDesign and Photoshop need to be posted here.

EvaluationYour answers to the 7 evaluation

questions need to be included under this category, whether you’ve done block text answers or linked to a Prezi.

The easy way to do this is click on your Dashboard, then click on posts to bring up all of your blog posts. Then click on Quick Edit and it will bring up all of your categories. Go through each post and categorize it. You can also change the time and date, this is important if you’ve done all of your research at the last minute, as this will need to appear earlier in your blog.

Your blog MUST include a categories widget which clearly shows the 4 categories.

2. Put your final designs in the first post

Your finished cover, contents and double page spread need to be the first thing that we see when we log on to your blog. You need to include a JPG of your cover as well as a link to a pdf (this is so we can also see a high quality version of your design).

3. To do this, when working in InDesign you will need to go to File / Export. From the drop down menu, make sure you select Adobe PDF (print) from the drop down menu.

4. You then must ensure that your pages are saved in the correct format. Use the following format: (your name) Cover.pdf

5. When the next menu comes up, make sure to select High Quality

Print from the drop down menu.

6. Select Marks and Bleed and tick Crop Marks, Bleed Marks and Use Document Bleed.

7. In addition to posting this to your blog, you will need to put a copy of it in the Stephen’s drop box.

8. To do this, simply connect to the server as you would when accessing Group Transfer, but instead

select the Staff Dropbox folder. Stephen’s dropbox is under imedia staff. Just drag and drop your finished PDFs in to this folder.
