soil types and how they affect plant growth. Students will learn

techniques for testing soils to determine their consistency. We

will grow plants and learn about the life cycle of plants.

Working with Words

We continue to study word patterns and common spelling

mistakes weekly. NO LIST will be assigned.

Social StudiesCommunities Over Time

We will investigate how communities begin and change

over time with the needs of their citizens. Students will

learn the key ingredients for a successful community!

Responsibility GoalStudents will be working to earn 8 out of 9 punches on their ticket for the quarterly

celebration. All students will be expected to complete and turn in all class work and homework to earn one punch a week. All assignments are due by Friday, except in

case of illness.

Third Grade HomeworkBuilding Reading Stamina with R.A.H.

Reading ~ at ~ HomeEach Third Grader will be expected to read for 30 minutes each night.

They must complete a minimum of TWO chapter books a quarter.Please revisit the Chapter Book Choice Menu in your child’s binder to review response

options. The first chapter book response is due mid-quarter (check agenda for date) and the second one is due at the last week of the quarter. The nightly reading can be a read to (someone reads to the child), a read with (someone reads with the child) or a read by (the

child reads independently). Your child should be encouraged to read from a variety of texts including: picture books, chapter books, articles, recipes, newspapers,

advertisements, menus, and other environmental print.Mathematics

Third Graders will be assigned nightly mathematics homework based on skills introduced and practiced in class. This extension of class work will increase understanding, assist

with internalizing and support your understanding of what we are doing each day in mathematics.

Mathematics homework is notated in the agenda daily!Other ways to support mathematics include noticing the mathematics concepts in the real

world, practicing basic math facts and utilizing web sites at strutzkids.weebly.com.Other Homework- Weekend Warriors

Weekend Warriors is a math test preparatory program that will help students be better prepared for the EOG test. You will get a letter explaining how the program works and the time line. Look for the information coming home in the SWIM binder during the first week

of school.
