“Don't accept their cherry/gjdidxyz liqueur”

The food was fine. The waitress offered their house-made specialty cherry liqueur, and not having read the reviews of the kind folk here, I accepted it. It tasted like cough syrup, and that's being kind. And it was ridiculously expensive for a shot. There was no music when we visited. Overall, it's a reasonably priced place with decent food and beer not far from the old town center, but be careful of their liqueur/aperitif offers, basically just say NO!

During my visit in Prague at mid-March I asked a local tourist guide about suggested sites to be visited, including traditional/old style restaurants. I selected "U Dvou Kocek" (Two Cats) because it was the closest to my hotel. I expected and discovered a cozy place in a 17th century building with indoor patina of the past. The food was good, fitting the traditional Czech cuisine, and the beer provided by the local brewery supported with glamour the endeavor. The service OK and soft by "business as usual" young ladies/waiters. And now about the atmosphere: live accordion music noisy and boring, clients mostly interested in sipping their cheap but good beer in large amounts, two big groups of tourists stemming from the eastern Europe, probably Russians, looked very happy, whereas a couple of Americans after mumbling and arguing with representatives of the Two Cats left looking unhappy. Caught in the middle, I and my wife partly enjoyed and eventually asked to pay and leave: a guy looking half hipster half MMA fighter came and charged quite a low price for food&beer but took his revenge asking an un-beliveable fee for the bloody accordion and a kind of contorno, not touched because I thought it is a decoration on each table. Back to my hotel I took my time and checked the position of The Two Cats in Trip Advisor's standing. It was #3516 of 4683 restaurants in Prague. So see my previous comment about clash of cultures and the recommendation by the local guide, i.e. these Cats transcend between "Trap-run away" and "Don't worry be happy".

“Great pub with fresh brewed beer”

Went twice in a 4 day trip to Prague. Clean and light. The highlight is definitely the fresh brewed beer made on site. The dark lager in particular, was amazing. The food is fairly typical Czech, but with a surprising amount of vegetarian options on the menu. Tasty and filling. And the prices are outstanding. Service is hit or miss, but never bad. Some servers aren't great with English, but they are polite. My beer never ran low. Not too touristy, with many locals in attendance.

This used to be the restaurant where I ate during my stay in Prague, the reason : the price and the food are good, I tried with other restaurants but the food wasn´t as good as here and the price was the same. Someone warn me about the shots so I did not take them, so yes! be careful and do not accept them! Service is ok, the waitress are not very friendly but that was not big deal to me. Just do not accept the shots and drink good beer!

“Guide's "recommendation"”


Might be true about tourist trap. Food average for a diner, but not for a restaurant, too many first time tourists just like us speaks for being advertised, not recommended by guides (well, may be we shouldn't have expected anything else). Personnel speaks Russian, but no hint of service, wi-fi in place but restrooms are just bad.

Conclusion: check recommendations from tourist operators guides, do not expect anything and you will not be disappointed.

I've visited the restaurant "U Dvou Kocek" which was referenced by the Tourist website of the City. I've been surprised by the last comments all very negative on Trip Advisor, in fact.The place is a microbrewery where local people goes there for a quick lunch or a drink.The menu proposes a choice of local food. The prices were very correct for the Old City of Prague and well indicated.The food was very tasty as the beer brewed locally. I have eaten the Dvou Kocek goulash which was excellent.The staff was efficient.If there is some music in the restaurant, you have to pay 30kr (roughly 1 euro). It is well indicated on the menu and not so expensive finally.In the end, for me, it is a very good address.

It is hard to find a restaurant with fair prices in the Old Town in Prague. We chose one here on TripAdvisor, checked the website... but the prices in the menu just did not match... and was heavily overpriced, so we left.


First time tourist, but happy, Wasnt bothereed with the fee

We had checked a couple restaurants around, then saw the Two Cats. Prices seemed fair, fair amount of people inside... we thought to give it a try. We made a huge mistake!

The waitress tried to put a lot of pressure on us to have some spirits, than to have beers, and did not seem to like that we ordered only one beer.The soup (just do not remember what we had... I try to forget this mistake, I think :) ) was fair, but small. We had wild boar and chicken leg for the main course. Both were really dry, altogether tasted below average. The portions were small. The chicken was so bad (overseasoned... just do not wanna know why), that my girlfriend did not even eat that.The old musician with the accordion... well... he might be goint on the guests' nerves for a couple of hundred years... and had to pay his nerve-wracking performance heavily. And it is not optional.Also had to pay for the bread we did not even touch. But it was on the table (found out later that it is a typical Czech trick).

I really liked the atmosphere of the place I have to admit... but the headwaiter was not so kind when I asked him to detail the "bill", a handwritten piece of paper.The food was below average, had to pay extra for the bread (30CZK) and payed 80CZK for the old nerve-killers performance. If we knew this, we whould have chosen our original restaurant...

I have to refer to Ace Ventura: Don't go in there!!! :) ... do not make the mistake we made.

“Might be a good place for your cat”

We've been unfortunate to visit this place for lunch. Loud and rather feeble accordion music for which you are being charged is really a torture. I actually offered to pay so they'd stop playing for a bit; they have refused. Please don't risk order a wine by glass - a crazy thought, I know. Looks like the bottle has been kept open for months. Be assured you'll never see the bottle. The menu food description is immaterial - you'll get what they have anyway. My mini chicken meatballs with warm veg mix and lemon sauce turned out to be four bread crummed chicken mini schnitels accompanied by some cold canned corn and mini carrots; lemon sauce has been replaced by a tiny lemon segment. Your cat might enjoy this place but I doubt you would.

This place is so old school, plastic clothes on the tables, a man playing... man playing accordion when you're sipping some outstanding Czech beer and munching on knedlicky with that awesome meat and gravy... Delicious food, meat and desserts were just outta this world! A must-go place when you're in Prague. Meow

“Good food, great atmosphere, and excellent service”

U Dvou Kocek is a traditional pub/restaurant serving good local food. Most of the people in our group chose the ribs, which were served in huge portions and pronounced very tasty. I had the wild boar goulash with bacon dumplings – simply delicious. For dessert I had the apple strudel, which unfortunately didn’t have much flavor. We all drank good Czech wine with our meal.

Our main waitress was very friendly, spoke good English, and knocked herself out to keep us all happy.

The prices are reasonable, even if you take into account that you have to pay extra per person for 13. The extra charges are clearly stated on the menu, which also provides information on allergens.

The restaurant was nearly full, and we were the only foreign customers. The atmosphere was great - everybody was in a cheerful mood, including the accordion player. We were very pleased with our evening here.

“Tourist Trap”


We planned to get a great meal at this one, it turned out to be a bad decision. The food is overall okay, but for what is the quantity concerned it is far from the czech standards and also below what normally one would expect. They charge you a mandatory 30 and 20 krones per person for live music (that is actually horrible, with music playing 10 min, then the good musician takes a 10 minutes rest). They do not give proper bill and beers are not on the menu (they are 40 for a large). When I complained about the extra charges (especially the music) he said it is said on the menus...indeed. But as soon as you sit down a waiter comes to you and doesn't give you the time to carefully read the menu card until the end and asks about the drink to order. You are going for a safe bet ordering beer, but they already charge you for music at the same time.

Go to V Cipu, that place is a real deal, especially compared to this one.

The place looks great. The food is OK. After you order, they will ask you will you want a shot of schnaps or something like that. That one short drink will cost you at the and 120 korona (almost 5eur) for one drink. That is the price of one meal! The check at the end had also a fee for entertainment and service. Instead od planned 400-500 korona we had to pay about 750. You will never see the same waiter 2 times, and of course at the end for the money will come a large male. There is no proper bill, ,just a piece of white paper. I see a lot of bad comments, and I regret that I didn't read firs some of them. Do not go here!!!

We had set out to look for a specific restaurant but got a little lost in the maze of streets of the Old Town when we stumbled across this restaurant. It looked quite rustic and was fairly busy with both diners and people having a drink. The traditional Czech food menu looked good and my husband opted for the rabbit, which he said was very tasty. My chicken dish was equally nice. In the background an accordionist had been playing, not always traditional tunes but pleasant enough. A pleasant evening was a little spoilt when we got the bill, which was hand written, not

They trick you by saying there is an offer on a schnapps of cherry-liqueur / Beche. Beer is around 30 CZK and the shots (that are actually double) 120 CZK/piece.

We started by asking if it's ok to just have drinks. Were taken to a table at the back. Asked for a menu and were told they have beer, would you like some. And then offered this great deal. As we got the check it was not even a proper receipt, just some scribbling on a piece of paper. The same waitress never came twice and suddenly everyone lost their ability to speak english. Do not go to this place and support their scams.

If I have to find something positive, at least we were not charged for the "entertainment" as I later read some have been.

If you're standing outside the restaurant, reading TripAdvisor reviews to determine whether you should eat here (like we did), don't bother going in. I wouldn't say that I regretted our decision to eat here, as it was snowing at the time and it was such a relief just to be inside somewhere warm! However the food was nothing to write home about and bordered on sloppy.

My husband ordered the chicken breast and it was ok. I ordered the vegetarian plate and it was pretty average - over boiled broccoli and carrot pieces mixed with corn kernels and buttered

boiled potatoes and rice. I don't think the chef added any seasoning to my dish at all...

We didn't experience any trouble with our handwritten bill as some other reviewers mentioned. But our waitress did try (very hard) to make us order the cherry aperitif. Thanks goodness we read up on this place before we entered as we firmly refused!

We had ribs( good) pork bits and spinach, average, salmon and basil, lean and the mixed plate of sausage, pork, duck and ham. Carnivores heaven. Staff tried hard and food came out quickly. We all found it quite salty, but that may be Czech food? Beers were good, and we were offered a sherry aperitif. Complimentary? Total bill was 2100. 3 beers, 2 soft, 5 sherry, five mains. Don't think we'll need much for dinner. Would we return??? No, why?Užitečné?

“Cheap only on first sight”


My husband and me went here for the lunch, prices seems very low and atmosphere looks typical Czech. We order beer for drink and soup with liver dumplings and goulash for lunch. Kind waitress offer us typical Czech schnapps called Becherovka and we accepted. Food was average but cheep, beer was very good (they have their brewery) but surprise comes at the end. When we got the bill the prize was like we are eating in fancy restaurant. Two glasses of Becherovka casts like all food together. Advice: If they offer to you something else than you order, check the price before accept.

“Real Czech atmosphere”


This is a very traditional pub, frequented by a lot of Czech people and not so much tourists, so if you are looking for a typical pub this is a good choice. The beer is very good (to be honest like many other pubs in Prague) and also the food, like goulash and fried cheese, but here you can find the real Czech atmosphere, far from the pubs made only for tourists.

“Seems to have changed for the worse in a year...”

This used to be one of our favorites but we were disappointed this last visit as my husband and I both concurred that it's gone down hill. The Svichkova wasn't as good as we remembered but I did like my goulash better than his dish as it has a decent paprika spice to it. We used to enjoy the "chopped salad" but it seemed less refined. Further, There are now certain inefficiencies that are probably designed to be efficient like one person to seat (strangely my husband speaks Czech and we got German menus), another to take orders, one to expedite beer, another to run food an yet another to make change for the bill. We appreciate the history and that Wolfgang A. Mozart drank his beer there but we probably won't return as it's a certain tourist trap.

“Bohemian feeling”


I think it's a good restaurant to eat a special czech food and to relax a little during the sightseeing tour. It's in the old town, so it's close to everything.The witress was very kind and fast but forgot to give us cutlery. The czech food was very delicious, the feeling was very good but the other dish (risotto) was horrible. But the price of the foods was very good. The most surprised thing was that we didn't get any bill, only a slice of paper and they charged service fee which wasn't mentioned anywhere (I think).

Stay away from this restaurant. Everything is well planned as a scheme of ripping off the tourists. First they have the tables marked with "reservee" signs, but if you are a tourist they will take the

sign from the table. Then they will offer "shots" on the house ... but you will pay 120czk each shot. Draft beer is 70czk!!! And finally you will pay 25czk for couvert and 30czk for music.

“Dark beer is great here”


We have been for couple of beers only. Tried the light and the dark. Both of them are great, but the dark one was amazing. Suprise-surprise! We were not charged for anything except the beer we ordered, although there was a live music and they offered us to take the table with the "Reserved" sign. Service was a bit hectic, but the place was full, so it was totally understandable.

“Very cheap and great food”

Me and my partner were looking for a cheap restaurant / pub to have dinner of the nights in our holidays in Prague. After walking a lot we saw this restaurant and for the prices and pub style atmosphere we decided to go inside. We loved the food, it was served in big portions and it was very tasty as well. You can feel it's proper homemade czech food. The beer was also amazing and the service too, specially a very nice lady who helped us a lot in choosing the food. There was also live music and we had a great time. All in all we were very happy with our choice and we'd love to come again one day

“Local place with focus on tourist's. Attention.”


It seems its a local restaurant. It is center located on a small street and looks like a brewery from outside and inside. Nevertheless they are very tourist focused. Meaning: once you sited to a table you will be automatically charged for cover and a fee for the "live music" per person! attention! not per table! As per the music, I am not an expert but comm'on: the guests should receive some money from him as they are forced to listening it. Seriously: nothing against the musician but to be charged for that ...lallallala..viva le'spaniaa....lalalalala...viva ect. So that's the level of it. The location is basic. The waiters could be more friendly and not so pushy. The beer is good but the food is very average, nothing special. I could say that as for a tourist this place is a rip off and not break even on value and money against which are charged of. You could find many other places which could give you the traditional feeling and not paying 2-3 euros (equivalence) per person only to sit to a table.

“Went for a beer”


Oddly enough according to other reviews we managed to come here without being ripped off. We only had two beers though and were in the stand up bar. There was a notice leading to the tables stating a cover charge for the music. This wasn't immediately apparent- my companion didn't see it. The charge only applied if in the seated area.The beer was good and averagely priced. The barman was friendly. Overall I can see how this place could be a rip off but wits about you and its an OK pit stop for a beer with the locals. Wouldnt dream of eating there though.

Awesome czech food and great beer, enough said. I always eat and drink too much when I come here. If you go at night and the accordian player is there even better.

“BASIC BUT ACCEPTABLE.”


This is a good example of a local pub for local people in the heart of Prague.If you want flashing lights,overpriced drinks and maximum decibel music this is not for you.This is a locals bar and the beer and food prices reflect this.I don't know if the EU smoking ban has yet been applied here,because you could barely see the bar for the cigarette smoke.The seating is plain but

comfortable enough,the food IE goulash is good and filling and the beer is excellent and a fraction of the cost of drinking on the Old Town Square.

“Be careful, you will pay more than you expect”


The food was ok, but there are some tricks to increase they income:they charge another type of sausage I eat, 54 CZK for 1 glass of beer ( 35-40 CZK is usual ) and must pay extra for music.

It was my first experience in Czeh Republic, but the worst.All the other pubs, restaurants, hotels were correct.

“Food mediocre nothing special - notice service charge and music coverage”

Soda is 40czkFood is not the best very ordinary and simple. I am not big fan of the food and I do like Hungarian style so it isn't that I aren't used to south east European food.

I would not recommend this place but it isn't poor. But definitely not average because it is below average.

“Hearty Czech meats!”

We stumbled upon this place just wandering about one evening. No idea if it would turn out well or dastardly. It seemed like locals were in the place so it couldn't be too bad. Local cuisine was our goal and we got it in spades! The Wedding Platter was FULL of the local fare - pig knuckle, roast duck, sausage, pork chop, potato dumplings in 4 varieties and LOTS of gravy - wow! Was it the finest cuisine? Perhaps not. Was it served robustly? You bet! The wok-like iron platter, the riveted steel handles, the crockery plates - yup, this was unvarnished local fare. As usual, the dark beer on tap was rich and cheaper than the water. The serving staff were efficient and spoke poor English - excellent! Means we weren't in a tourist trap. Others are slagging this place but we had a good time, hearty eats and were decidely NOT overcharged. Did we get nickled and dimed? Maybe, but it was all on the bill without fuss. Even the accordion player was fun. We were so happy with the whole affair we did it again a couple days later. Now that's an endorsement!

“ Nice place, tasty food, but..... ”

In our first day we saw this place on our way through Old town and decided to have lunch. There were many people in and out and we found a few free tables inside. We had different beer for each of us, soup and goulash. The food and beer were great!!! In the menu we noticed the additional charge for live music, so we were prepared for 30 czk for 1 person. Then nearly sitting to us were Asian family and they were very disappointed after seeing bill. And there were long discussions with staff, after all police was called. I can't say it was very pleasant to listen or even see this situation. And when we saw our bill, it was not only 30 czk per person for live music, 25 czk per person for some service was also included. We are not against tipping, and we liked our meal and the place but didn't come back here again during our stay. And I'm not complaining about these additional charges, but just be careful, that you see low price in menu and you will be charged above it. My opinion is that it will be more helpful to review the prices in menu and not to confuse people on this matter. Once more I would like to thank the staff for drinks and food, that was excellent!

“Nice place with inexplicably "reserved" tables”


This looks like a typical Czech beer hall, not far from the colourful Havel Market in the old town. The police station is – reassuringly? – right nextdoor. They do sell wine, of course, and serve pretty decent Czech food at reasonable prices. The service of the latter is so fast that one has to hurry up otherwise the next course is already on the table before you finish the first. Better to space your orders! There is an accordionist/singer to entertain (not too loudly, fortunately). It is not overly touristy, being just a bit off the beaten track, and the many Czech people, including several students, who were there on the night we dined gave me a feeling that we had stumbled on a ‘good’ place. We certainly liked it. One thing was a bit strange, though: there were no empty tables when we arrived – they were either occupied or reserved, yet we were shown to a ‘reserved’ table and noticed the same happening to subsequent arrivals. Strange...

Seemed very cheap and we soon found out why, food was very poor, total cost of food should have been 420kr, when the guy gave the bill it was 720.240 for 2 disgusting drinks which they just put on the table, which we presumed were free as this had happened at other eateries, we did not drink them as they were as bad as their beer.60kr for some guy in the corner playing his accordion.They brew their own beer which is also disgusting. The male member of staff was a complete ignorant knob. Very intimidating.Apologies for language but I say it as it is.This is the first bad meal and service in prague so please don't be put off just avoid this place.

Looked good from the outside, looked busy, went in the waitress removed a reserved sign for us, and gave us a menu, and asked us as for our drinks order, asked to come back in a few minutes. 2 minutes later another waitress came over we ordered our drinks she asked for our food order, asked to come back. The waitress took food order, the food arrived at our table within 5 minutes. The waitress was quite abrupt when we asked her to come back for our order. The second waitress walked around with her arms folded! As soon as our food had been eaten our plates were cleared immediately, and the waitress suggested we tried their local liquer. We were unsure but she pressurised us by saying how lovely it was, and that we should try it. Because I hesitatedshe patronisingly said you can have the one that we give to children!!! Before we could move the drinks were on the table. We drank them thinking they would be gratis drinks which is the usual custom experience by us both on our travels worldwide. We asked for the bill, and a waiter wrote

this out in front of us. Looking at the total it was much more expensive than others meals we had enjoyed throughput the week. We questioned him and he pretended to not have any command of English. Strange as earlier in the evening we had heard him, and he asked us if we wanted anything else? Close inspection of the bill showed that we had been charged 240k for the two liqueurs than the meal !!!!! also there was a 100k charge that could not be explained. We asked for the manager and he said it was him. He shrugged his shoulders and would not reason or listen. This restaurant was a complete RIP OFF. We even returned the following day to discuss. The same male shrugged his shoulders and would not listen. This really was the worst experience we had in Prague.

“Great for a beer...not so good for food.”


After a "few" visits by me to the pub part of this establishment, we decided to have lunch which unfortunatly was not a good experience.

We had knuckle of pork and ribs, both of which were luke warm, the ribs actualy seemed to be belly of pork.

The acopnying potatos and sauerkrayt were also nearly cold.

However this place is an absolute must for beer drinkers, as you walk in the door there is a brewery section that had a man brewing on our visit.

The dark beer is top notch and 40 krowns for half litre, pretty good on price.

You order straight from the very cheery barman who never seems to stop, he is either filling glasses on washing them.

I have spent a good few hours this trip soaking up the atmosphere...and the beer!

“Surprise in the bill”


Your bill will be greater by 30 Kcs (now about 1.2 euro) per person for "music and servicing". Three people drank 2 beers (only 1 kind - no choice) and 1 Cola, and got something (1 portion) with beer for about 40-50 minutes. Bill was 200+90 for music (about 11 euro). These days we drank beer at 4 other places (some with music), but nowhere was such surprise. Sorry.

“Alas another typical trap for tourists.”


My girlfriend and I decided to stop here on a whim one evening - I know the place, I used to stop by for a beer years ago. The restaurant has two parts, a standing room only front part if you just want a beer (alas quite smoky - the room, not the beer) and the restaurant proper. The first thing that seemed strange to us was that all of the tables had reservation cards. When I asked if we could sit (in response to whether we were going to eat I said yes) we were told to sit at any table we wanted.

As it turns out, there are no "reservations" but it's just a way of preventing people who aren't going to be eating but just want a beer from sitting down. We ordered Pilsners and got menus. Here I have to note that though I grew up in Canada and speak perfect English, I was born in Czech and have been living in Prague for the past 15 years, so basically operate as a local. So we were spared having the "griotka" (cherry liqueur) being pushed on us, a variation of the Becherovka scam at U Fleků.

I ordered the boar goulash with bacon dumplings and my girlfriend ordered svíčková (beef sirloin in cream sauce). Her dish was OK, but there are plenty of places where they do it better at half the price. The goulash was terrible. Goulash should be made by simmering the meat in its juices for a long time... this was evidently just reheated, dried-out pieces of meat (and a very small portion) with some generic sauce poured over top. The dumplings were the only part that were at least of average quality.

The beer was fine, but it was Pilsner so that's a given. In short, this is alas another tourist trap designed to separate them from their money as efficiently as possible without providing corresponding quality for the prices charged. They have a harmonica player (he wasn't playing when we arrived, so we didn't notice him) which is pretty much a dead giveaway, as there are basically no pubs in Prague were locals go with musicians - it's always for the "benefit" of the tourists and an opportunity to charge them an "entertainment fee" or something.

So avoid this place. There are many other decent pubs that will give you better quality food and service at a normal price.

This place uses every underhanded trick in the book to rob u blind. They are old school

grifters. Secret charges for having sauces on the table. Music charges for the man in the restaurant playing somewhere. The sweet wine shots they bring you and then charge 120 crowns per person. Various mysterious service charges. They put reserved on every table and then if they spot a mark they take them off and quickly escorts them in. They tell locals the place is full because they can only charge them regular prices. Be afraid!!!!! Stay away!!!!
