Theme – Superheroes

(NB: All written tasks can be supported by an adult in the form of scribing or supporting in copying if more appropriate)

Task 1

Think about your favourite superhero. What do you like about them? What do they look like? What super powers do they have?

Character Creation

Design your own superhero using the sheets attached. What are they like? Where are they from? How do they speak? Do they have super powers/gadgets? If you find drawing your super hero a little tricky then verbally describe it and see if an adult can draw it for you! See if you can come up with a cool name for your superhero.

Challenge – Can you think of a mission that the superhero could complete in order to make the world a kinder and happier place?

Task 2

Your next challenge is to see if you can write a story about your superhero. Think about the different characters that may feature in your story.

Does your story have a beginning, middle and end?

Have you used descriptive language?

Have you used the correct punctuation including capital letters, full stops, commas and speech marks?

Challenge – Can you turn your story into a book that has a front cover, states the author and illustrator, has pictures, page numbers and a blurb on the back cover?

Task 3

Super Hero Slime!

See if you can follow the instructions attached to make your very own slime! It can get a bit messy so make sure you ask an adult to help you. Can you then tell an adult exactly how you made the slime? What does it feel like at each stage? Can you cut the pictures up and then stick them in the right order? Write down some instructions for making slime if you can!

Challenge – Can you create a character that would have a connection with slime and describe how the character uses the slime? Maybe this could be a villain?

Task 4

This is George. George is determined to save the world by lunchtime, but he's not quite sure how. Grandpa suggests they start by recycling the yoghurt pot from his breakfast, putting his banana peel in the compost pile, and hanging the washing to dry in the sun. A bike trip to the recycling bank, charity shop and local farmers' market show how recycling and re-using materials, and using less petrol and local produce can really help save the world. George even gets a favourite toy fixed!

Research the terms Re-use, Reduce, Repair and Recycle.

Can you make labels for each of these words and another which says Rubbish? Next try to explain what these words mean. As you use things and get some rubbish in your home, can you sort the rubbish into the 5 Rs?

Can you fill a charity bag of things to be recycled or re-used ready to take to the charity shop?

How can things be repaired – e.g. toys or books or clothes? Think creatively how you could re-use any of the rubbish.

See if you can make a Rubbish monster or Superhero which gives the important messages to the rest of the school. See if you can create a poster which includes your monster/superhero

Challenge - Use a bin bag (clean!) and create a super hero cape that has important messages about rubbish!

Task 5

Watch the music video for The Script – Superheroes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIm1GgfRz6M)

At the very beginning you will hear at least 2 different instruments and then as the video progresses, you will see some other instruments. Which instruments can you see and hear? Can you learn some of the lyrics? Can you see/hear the same instruments in different songs?

Challenge – Watching the video carefully, can you talk about how the video links to the lyrics of the song?
