Terri Tchorzynski is a proud CMU and Spring Arbor graduate who serves as a Professional School Counselor at the Calhoun Area Career Center (CACC) in Battle Creek, Michigan. She was named the 2017 National School Counselor of the Year by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). Through a data-driven, comprehensive, and student-centered approach to school counseling, Terri and her team have received both state and national recognition. With Terri’s leadership, the CACC’s counseling department has been recognized by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) for exemplary practices in college/career readiness, and was the second school in the state of Michigan to receive the nationally recognized designation as a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP). She has been recognized as a top presenter for MDE’s Career and Technical Education Conference and has been named the 2016 Michigan School Counselor of the Year. Terri believes that building a trusting relationship with students is at the core of helping them find their success in life.

“Reducing the Talent Gap: Michigan Career Pathways Alliance”Monday 11/6/17 9:15 A.M.

Roger Curtis was named director of the Department of Talent and Economic Development by Gov. Rick Snyder in November 2016. The department works to ensure that the state can efficiently and effectively develop, administer and coordinate Michigan’s economic, housing, and talent development initiatives and programs. Mr. Curtis previously spent 10 years as president of Michigan International Speedway. Under his leadership, MIS hosted two annual NASCAR races – bringing an estimated $414 million in economic activity to the state. Mr. Curtis also has served as vice president of sales and marketing at California Speedway, senior director of marketing and sales at Richmond International Raceway and director of marketing and sales at Watkins Glen International. A native of Terre Haute, Ind., Curtis is a graduate of Indiana State University. He lives in Onsted and serves as treasurer of the Onsted Board of Education.

As the Director of the Office of Career and Technical Education, Patty Cantú provides direction and leadership to department staff and to constituents in the field in the areas of Career and Technical Education programs and Early/Middle College activities in the state. These activities are aligned with the goals and mission of the Michigan Department of Education and the State Board of Education. Patty addresses stakeholders and partners about the integral role of Career and Technical Education and Early/Middle Colleges in the high school experience, the smooth transition of high school students to postsecondary education, issues in curriculum, student services, and the importance of proper planning. Patty has a Masters in Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership and a Bachelors in HRD/Early Childhood, both from Oakland University. In addition, Patty has done post master’s degree course work in counseling at Oakland University and doctoral course work in education administration at the University of Michigan.
